We know a lot of you are booking stays at Balmaha Lodges and Apartments to celebrate something special. Anniversaries. Birthdays. Engagements. Or just a weekend away that deserves a bit of extra effort.

So we have teamed up with D-Lights to make those arrivals something people actually remember.

D-Lights are a professional lighting company based in Port Glasgow who specialise in setting up decorative light displays for all kinds of occasions. They create everything from romantic candlelight style setups with LED flicker lights to colourful festoon and fairy light arrangements that transform a space. Their work is clean, reliable, and designed to be left safely in place while you enjoy your stay.

They have a selection of standard packages that are ready to go and perfect for most celebrations. If you have something more specific in mind they are also happy to discuss bespoke tailored options, though they do ask for a reasonable amount of notice to put those together.

D-Lights handle everything from the initial enquiry right through to the setup on the day. They are your first and only point of contact for booking. You can reach them directly through their page or give them a call. Once you have confirmed your package with them they will coordinate directly with us to make sure everything is in place before you arrive.

Most of you will know we've had Raven and Nightingale Apartments off the books since we returned while we get to work on a lot of areas of the site. Kenny's been cracking on with the upgrades in both accommodations and the place is starting to look night and day.

And some more news – James officially starts with us on the grounds tomorrow. He's coming on board to get the gardens back to where they used to be (and beyond, hopefully). Won't lie though, it's going to take him a little while as there’s some work ahead, but we're all pulling together now and moving in a brand new direction as a team. He's extra keen to get stuck in and we're chuffed to have him on board.

Flower beds going in, grass getting sorted, grass edges looking proper and sharp again. Fruit trees going in the ground, pruning all the overgrown stuff that's been needing done for years. It's a big job but we're getting there.

We wanted to share some of this even though both apartments aren't ready to let yet. We’re not opening them back up until we've got them just right. Partly because we're excited, but mostly because we want you to see we're not just carrying out a quick patch job.

Eventually we’ll be taking the site in a completely new direction. No going back to how we first ran things all those years ago before we moved on. Times change, places need to change with them, and this is just a taster of what's coming.

A Very Special Welcome Back!

We are thrilled to announce that Charlotte has returned from maternity leave and stepped into her new role as Facilities Manager here at Balmaha Lodges & Apartments.

Charlotte, we are so proud to have you back. Your journey with us has been nothing short of incredible, and the resilience you have shown, both personally and professionally, is truly inspiring. Since day one, your eye for detail has been second to none, and we knew from the moment you walked back through our doors that you were ready to take on this exciting new chapter.

And Charlotte....... you have not disappointed.

Since your return, Colin and I have been absolutely blown away by your attention to every last detail. From the way you have already begun fine-tuning our housekeeping standards to your vision for the hot tub areas and apartment spaces, your passion and dedication are shining through in everything you do. It is clear that you have hit the ground running, and we could not be more excited (and proud) about what lies ahead.

Under Charlottes guidance, the Housekeeping Department and our entire site will go from strength to strength. Charlotte will guide Lesley and her Housekeeping team to ensure that every guest experience is nothing short of exceptional, and she will report directly to our General Manager, Josephine.

Together, Charlotte and Josephine will drive Balmaha Lodges & Apartments forward into this exciting new era. Colin and I returned to Balmaha with a vision to create something truly magical again, and with Charlotte back in the fold, leading with such passion and precision, we know the best is yet to come.

Right then. Big news.

Work has finally kicked off on Raven Loch View and Nightingale. And that doesn't mean a quick freshen up. That means stripped back to absolutely nothing. Bare shell. Walls gone. Floors up. Everything out. Its properly happening.

Sheldon and his boys are in there now and honestly theyre flying through it. Gave him some rough scribbles on paper honestly, it looked like a toddler had been let loose with a biro and he came back with proper designs that actually look incredible. The man doesnt cut corners. At all. His team are rapid. Josephine keeps calling them wizards and Sheldon loves it you can see him puff up a bit every time she says it. Bless him.

The hot tub is gone.

Just the one. It was Ravens. Nightingale never had one to begin with. But that one Raven had? Gone. Finished. No more.

No more chemical balancing. No more cover that weighs a ton when its wet. No more midges treating it like a free buffet. No more guests asking if its heated yet ten minutes after theyve arrived. Just done. Gone. And honestly? Probably for the best.

But heres the thing about Raven.

Its going to be the best on site. And were not just saying that.

The kitchen? Biggest one on site. Proper kitchen. The kind you actually want to cook in. Space to move. Space to breathe. Space to actually enjoy making something instead of elbowing the person next to you every time you reach for a pan. If you cant find the butter in Raven, its your own fault.

The view? That balcony. That stretch of water right in front of you. Uninterrupted. Breathtaking. The kind of view you dont get tired of. Morning coffee. Evening glass of something. Just you and that water stretching out to the hills beyond. Best loch view on site. No question. Youll probably end up just standing there staring at it like a goldfish.

The interior design? Best on site. Sheldon has outdone himself. Modern. Warm. Stylish. The kind of place you see online and immediately want to book. Every finish, every surface, every detail has been thought about. Even the bits you wont notice. Especially the bits you wont notice. Thats the point.

Raven is the flagship. The one everything else will be measured against. No pressure then.

Raven is going pet free as well. Completely. So its just peace, quiet, and that loch. No distractions. No dog hair. No barking at squirrels at 6am. Just the water and the sky and maybe the odd seagull that thinks it owns the place.

Nightingale though? Nightingale is for the dog lovers. Muddy paws, wet noses, the lot. Bring them all. Never had a hot tub, doesnt need one. But Nightingale doesnt have that same uninterrupted loch view thats Ravens thing. Thats what makes it special.

Behind the scenes is absolute chaos.

Colin keeps moving things. Files. Keys. Random stuff that nobody else can find. Then forgets where he put them. So Josephine thinks shes going mad. She introduced herself to one of the builders three times yesterday. Tried to open the front door with her car keys. Picked up the card machine and said hello into it like it was a phone. Lost the cupboard keys twice in one morning. Same cupboard. Twice.

Just make more coffee and let them get on with it. Its all you can do.

Colin has now labelled the kettle "PRINTER" and the printer "KETTLE" which is quite funny until you actually want a brew and end up staring at a photocopier wondering why nothings happening. There are mugs everywhere. No tea. Absolute anarchy.

Theyre a nightmare together but honestly? They walked into a site that had just been coasting for years. Letting things slide. Getting comfortable with average. What theyve tried to do since then... dont know how theyre still standing. They laugh through it because the alternative is crying into their mugs. And theres usually a mug nearby. Even if its labelled "PRINTER."

These two apartments are the start.

If we get these right, everything else follows. Raven is the blueprint. The standard. The one that raises the bar for the whole site. Biggest kitchen. Best view. Best design. Pet free. No hot tub. Just pure, honest luxury.

Cant wait to show everyone. Honestly. Its going to be something special.

Sheldon deserves a medal. Colin and Josephine deserve a holiday. And everyone deserves a coffee.

Come along for the ride. Its going to be chaos but its going to be brilliant. And probably quite dusty. Apologies in advance for that.

So here she is! The newest member of the Balmaha family has officially arrived.

Everyone meet Freigha. She is already stealing the show and making her big sister Emileigh look like a total pro. Honestly, we are buzzing to see these two take on the world together.

Charlotte you legend. You have done it and we could not be more made up for you.

Before Scotland was Scotland, this rock was alive.

340 million years ago, Dumbarton Rock was a volcano, spewing molten rock into a prehistoric landscape. Over time, the softer stone eroded away, leaving behind the hard basalt core that still stands today — a geological monument to a world long gone. This is known today as “the volcanic plug”.

But it's what came next that makes this place unforgettable.

For over 1,500 years, this rock has been a fortress, a royal refuge, and a prison. Known first as Alt Clut “Rock of the Clyde" it was the capital of the Kingdom of Strathclyde, a powerful British kingdom that stretched across what is now southern Scotland.

In 870 AD, the Vikings came. “Olaf the White” and his brother Ívar surrounded the rock with 200 longships, laying siege for four long months. The defenders held out until their water ran dry — and when the rock finally fell, the Vikings plundered its treasures and carried off a "great host" of Britons into slavery.

Centuries later, in 1305, William Wallace was imprisoned here before being taken to London for his ex*****on. And in 1548, Mary Queen of Scots sheltered within these walls, waiting for the ship that would carry her to France and to a destiny that would change Scotland forever…

Today, you can stand where kings, queens, warriors, and prisoners once stood. Climb the 557 steps to the twin peaks and the Clyde opens up beneath you, winding its way towards Loch Lomond and the Highlands beyond. The view is breathtaking, but it's the weight of history that really hits you hard.

And when the day's exploring is done, there's a forgotten corner of Scotland waiting for you on the shores of Loch Lomond. A New Dawn at Balmaha Lodges!

Colin and I have sat in the car park more times than we can count over the past few years, looking at this place, feeling it in our chests, and wondering if we’d ever find our way back. Twelve weeks ago, we did.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Balmaha Lodges is stepping into a bright new chapter. Under our management (yes ours again!), we are embarking on a mission we’re calling “The Great Return.”

We’re going back to our authentic roots and exceptional Scottish Hospitality. We look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Today, the grass has been cut, the strimming’s done, and order has finally been restored—which can only mean one thing…
Mother is back on her rightful throne!

Let's be honest, the place just doesn't run right without you. We had to bring out the big machinery just to fill the void—but nothing compares to the real boss in charge.

They say age is just a number… so today we're celebrating a fabulous 40 years… plus a wee bit extra for experience (eek!). Let's just say you've been ruling this kingdom longer than some of us have been able to hold a strimmer! 😂

No mushy stuff—just massive respect and a whole lot of love. Still bossing it, still smiling, and still the best wee mother of the site a team could ask for.
