Haweswater Hotel The Haweswater Hotel is the only building in the 100 square mile Haweswater Nature Reserve No boats are allowed on the lake, so peace and quiet is assured.

A photographer's haven.
We have our own little microclimate between mountains making the light incredibly special here. Autumn and Winter are particularly beautiful seasons at the Haweswater for those who love dramatic scenery and skies. Every hike is different, no day is the same.

Mardale Green.
We only exist as a result of the flooding of Mardale which gave birth to the Haweswater Reservoir.
Our building stands as witness of that period in time, as it was used by workers, locals and ex-villagers during its construction.
Seeing the ruins of Mardale used to be a rare sight, with changes in weather, we see what was once there more regularly, it's an extraordinary visual journey to the past.
Below are images taken by photographer Jonny Gios this month when the water level was at 16.35 meters - with the lowest recorded being 16.69 m on 1st November 2003.
We've had hundreds of guests stay with us throughout the years who travelled to see the forgotten village and a few authors who also used the area as inspiration. We've had the sons, daughters, grand children and great grandchildren of many of the villagers come visit us also, so many poignant stories of change from times long gone.

We have made a few changes to Aquila Lakehouse, our luxury lakehouse just across the road from the hotel. It's looking splendid after a few months of renovations. We hope to welcome some of you there. Three bedrooms, up to six people can enjoy the house which is right by the Haweswater reservoir. We have EV charging facility (the new Tesla Powerwall 3) for those of you driving EVs.
