Bowes Museum is a fantastic place to visit! Only 15 minute drive from Middleton, it houses an eclectic collection of interesting pieces from across the ages. This grand Gothic building was commissioned by John and Josephine Bowes-Lyon to house their own private collection of artefacts...unfortunately neither of them got to see it completed. Do visit this when you come to Teesdale if only to see the two-headed calf!

Just a few recent photos of this beautiful landscape the Belvedere is situated in. Photos are of easy to get to places - either walkable to or short drive to. They are of....Selsett Reservoir and a beautiful sunset reflected in the water, a moonlit night in the village and a chilly Low Force to Holwick walk. Just gorgeous and food for the soul 🙂

Soul soothing walk from Low Force to Holwick, back down and over the Tees via Scoberry Bridge and back to Bowlees car park. A couple of miles and easy to do :)

Yet another beautiful day in Middleton! View opposite the B&B with the remnants of the 13th century Church window in the grave yard of St. Mary's church. Will look even more stunning when cherry blossom comes out 😊

We have been blessed with beautiful weather recently which makes the lock down a little more bearable. Birds are amazing - saw two oyster catchers fly over me today, lapwings are doing their crazy aerobatics, male pheasants seriously strutting their stuff and rooks are cawing like crazy in their nests. Lambs are abundant and beautiful! Spring is definitely here! Photo is of a little later in the season but you catch the drift....just stunning beauty all around. Be safe everyone!

Goodness...how rapidly things are changing. Only 2 days after saying I'm still open, I have decided the B&B is temporarily shutting its doors to guests in the light of the crisis. I think it will only be a matter of time before we are instructed to do so (if this news hasn't already happened) but I will re-open when it is feasible to do so. However, there is still the holiday home in the village that will still continue to be open for bookings...again, unless directed to do otherwise. Details on the B&B website for this. I will keep posting photos of this beautiful area to uplift in this worrying time. Photo today is of the stone sheep taken at Low Force once you have walked over Wynch Bridge - lovely walk up to High Force from here. Be safe everyone x

I'm still open!!! Can't think of a better place where you can still socially isolate and enjoy the stunning scenery and fresh air. Only 3 bedrooms with own bathrooms so no crowds here. All precautions taken in this time of madness. Cafes now doing take out, so please support these small businesses where you can, and I will keep you updated if pub and hotel are doing similar. Pizza shop and Fish & Chips, too. Local Coop open until 10pm. So we are lucky here in Middleton, I have to say. Be safe everyone, and morally responsible as we are actively being encouraged to do :) Photo is from a walk through old lead mining area at Coldberry mines. Nice circular walk....about 6 miles, I think! :)
