May is National Walking Month so we thought that we would post some great North Devon walks throughout the month. To kick off, this is a challenging walk but it covers an amazing stretch of coastline. 🥾🥾
🥾 Walk of the Month – Porlock Weir to Lynmouth via Culbone 🌿
Step into one of the most magical stretches of coastline in Exmoor — a beautifully shaded walk through ancient woodland along the longest wooded coastline in England and Wales.
Following the South West Coast Path, this route weaves through fern-lined paths, historic landmarks and peaceful woodland, making it perfect for warmer days when you want shelter from the sun — though be prepared for some long and steep climbs!
🌿 What to expect:
• Cool, leafy woodland paths along the Exmoor Coast
• Fern-lined trails through dramatic coastal scenery
• Historic highlights including old garden tunnels
• A visit to Culbone Church — one of the smallest and oldest in England
• Wildlife, tranquillity and breathtaking views
📍 Start: Porlock Weir (not circular)
📏 Distance: 11 miles (17.8 km)
⛰ Difficulty: Hard – long and steep climbs
🥾 Trail: South West Coast Path
💡 Tip: You can turn back at Culbone Church for a shorter walk — the return route is just as beautiful.
