Bru Stone Circle
The view from the sunroom at Sealladh na Mara includes a little-known set of standing stones. Nine large boulders, several more then 2 metres high, are set in a rough oval measuring about 80 m by 40 m. on the narrow isthmus between the loch and the sea. Not mentioned in any guidebook or archaeological text, they are a small local mystery to be explored.

Muirneag
The rounded contours of Muirneag dominate the northern Barvas Moor. The hill is celebrated in Donald MacRae’s Gaelic poem The Emigrant’s Lament: “Dear hill of their heart, now lost to their view forever” as the emigrants’ ship departs for Canada. On a gloriously bright February day I walked in to Muirneag from Tolsta, a difficult hike made easier by the slightly frozen moor. From the summit one has a view from the West Side of Lewis, around the north coast and down the east coast to the Lochs district. The mountains of Sutherland stand out clearly across the Minch.

The Clisham We**am
Located at the highest point on the road (A859) between Lewis and Harris, this we**am provides travellers with a continuous view of weather and road conditions. If you want to see what the weather in Lewis looks like right now, this is your best bet. But remember that when there is snow on the Clisham, it is likely rain down on the moor.

A few of the famous "Lewis Chessmen" are finally back on the island, at the Western Isles Museum in Lews Castle. These marvellous small sculptures, carved by a Norse artist from walrus ivory, were hidden in the dunes at Uig for over 500 years.
