It's getting colder now, and Hampshire County Council are starting to salt the roads FOR DRIVERS SAFETY.
The salt is irresistible to Livestock and does encourage them to the roads.

So what's being done? I hear you ask.

The Commoners Defence Association are putting out salt licks further into the Forest off of two of the main roads where accident happen. This will hopefully keep the stock off the roads. The New Forest Trust has funded this project, and from trials, looks like it is working.

BUT the onus is on anyone driving across the Forest. The signs are there to warn you, no, they don't go into stables at night, they are doing their thing to sculpt the New Forest and you are crossing their land.

If you are unlucky enough to be involved in an incident you LEGALLY have to call 999 at the time of the collision.
