Michael’s Happy Place 🎣🐟

I think it’s safe to say Michael has found his happy place… ❤️

For the past month, he’s been working incredibly hard creating our new stock pond — digging, shaping, filling, tweaking and generally obsessing over getting everything just right!

There’s still a little way to go, with pond plants and a few finishing touches to add, but this week came the exciting bit… our first little baby carp have moved in! 🐟

Just a small handful to start with, but we’re really looking forward to watching them grow and seeing the pond develop and mature over the coming months and years.

Considering our beautiful main lake is home to some rather impressive carp, it’ll be lovely to watch these tiny ones grow from little babies into hopefully equally impressive fish one day.

Michael is definitely in his element. Give him a lake, a pond and some fish to look after and he’s happy! 😂

❤️ COME AS A GUEST, LEAVE AS A FRIEND ❤️

For us, the most important thing about our holiday cottages at Lower Winsford Farm isn’t simply providing somewhere beautiful to stay — it’s making sure every guest feels welcomed, comfortable and completely at home from the moment they arrive.

We want our cottages to feel like a little home from home. Somewhere you can switch off, slow down and enjoy a genuinely relaxing break in the Devon countryside — and, of course, somewhere your four-legged friends can feel just as welcome too! 🐾🌿

Since opening our doors, the reviews and messages we’ve received have been exceptionally wonderful, and we honestly couldn’t be more grateful. ❤️

We have a guest book in each of our cottages, and reading the lovely handwritten messages left behind has become one of our favourite things to do. We also now have our Google reviews, and every single review, recommendation and kind word means such a lot to us — particularly as a small family-run business just starting out.

But perhaps the loveliest part of all has been the people we’ve met along the way. Guests who stop for a chat, come and meet the animals, spend time around the lake and leave feeling like they’ve become a little part of farm life. 🦙🐐🐓🎣

Some have already booked to return, which really is the biggest compliment we could ask for.

Thank you to every single person who has stayed with us, supported us, recommended us or taken the time to leave a few lovely words in our guest books or online.

❤️ Kathy’s Corner – Where a Dream Lives On ❤️

Kathy’s Corner is so much more than a paddock full of alpacas, goats and chickens. For me, it’s one of the most special places at Lower Winsford Farm.

Mum and I shared a dream for many years. One day, we wanted to have holiday cottages in the countryside, a fishing lake, a paddock with alpacas and animals, and somewhere our family could build a life together.

Sadly, Mum never got to see that dream become a reality. Three years ago, we lost her to Motor Neurone Disease. Before she passed away, I promised her that somehow, one day, Dad and I, together with Michael and the family, would follow that dream.

And three years later… here we are. ❤️

When we arrived at Lower Winsford Farm, it already had the cottages, the beautiful lake, woodland and the perfect paddock. It felt as though all those conversations and dreams we'd shared had somehow led us here.

Then something rather special happened.

On the very day we moved in, four beautiful alpacas popped up on my social media looking for a new home.

It felt like they were meant to find us.

A week later, Pearl, Mable, Barbara and Kizzy moved into their new home, and Kathy’s Corner was born. 🦙❤️

Since then, our little farm family has gradually grown. We've welcomed our six baby pygmy goats, our rescue chickens and, of course, Gary the rooster – who seems to believe the whole place was actually created for him. 😂🐐🐓

And we’re not finished yet… there are already plans for more little residents to join us in the future.

I often think about how much Mum would have loved it here. She would have adored sitting by the lake, watching the animals, pottering around the farm and seeing guests enjoying the place we'd spent so many years dreaming about.

She may never have physically made it to Lower Winsford Farm, but her memory is woven into everything here.

In the animals.
In the lake.
In the gardens.
In the cottages.
And in those little moments when I stop, look around and think…

“Mum, we actually did it.” ❤️

🌿 Sometimes, the best thing to do is simply… nothing.

One of our favourite places at Lower Winsford Farm — and certainly one of our guests’ favourites too — is down by the lake. 💚

You don’t have to be fishing, swimming or out in the boat. Sometimes it’s enough just to find one of the swims, sit at the water’s edge, dangle your feet in the lake and simply watch the world go by.

It’s beautifully peaceful. The water gently rippling, birds singing in the trees, the occasional splash as a fish breaks the surface, and the sounds of nature all around you. 🐟🌿🦆

We often wander down there intending to stay for five minutes… and somehow find ourselves still sitting there much later.

No traffic. No rushing. No need to be anywhere else.

Just water, wildlife and a little bit of peace. ❤️
