HISTORY FANS – on the east side of Kintyre, between Peninver and Saddle sits the hidden gem of Kildonan Dun. First occupied by people around the beginning of 2AD, over 2,000 years ago.

It is heralded as a very well preserved example of a Scottish fortified dun (similar to brochs, but with lower walls).

It was still being used until the C14, although probably not for its intended purpose. More likely a cattle pen rather than a farmstead of several huts and families.

Davaar Lighthouse on Davaar Island at the head of Campbeltown Loch. Sentinal lighthouse guiding ships into the sheltered loch. Reached at low tide on foot by a causeway just south of Campbeltown.
Climb to the top for views to Arran to the east, Ailsa Criag and the Ayrshire coast to the south east, or backwards to Campbeltown and Beinn Ghuilean rising behind it. Walk around the rocky shore to visit the cave with its painting of Jesus (by a local artist) or check out the Lighthouse itself, one of over 200 operational lighthouses in Scotland.
