There are a choice of beaches nearby notably Spittal and Coldingham and of course the glories of the Heritage Northumbrian Coastline are also within very easy driving distance - Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and beach and the bustling seaside village of Seahouses. Only 1 hour’s drive from Edinburgh for an alternative day trip the cottage is in an ideal location for fishing, cycling, golf and the historical sites for which the Borders are famous for. Bamburgh Castle is located on the coast of Northumberland, England

Bamburgh Castle began as a Celtic fort known as Din Guarie, likely established by the native Britons. It was later taken over by the Anglo-Saxons and became a royal seat of the Kings of Northumbria.

The castle’s location made it a vital defensive site against invaders, including the Vikings.

After the Norman Conquest, the castle was rebuilt in stone and expanded by the Normans, establishing the basic structure seen today. Over the years, it continued to evolve with additional fortifications and renovations under different rulers.
