I know how invested you all are now in the success (or otherwise!) of my Grade 1 clarinet challenge… 🎶😂

Yesterday I managed to squeeze in an actual lesson with an actual clarinet teacher! Huge thanks to nicprenticemusic for her patience and encouragement.

We worked through the two pieces that need to be played with accompaniment and even started work on the third.

Here’s the proof… although it’s perhaps not quite as polished as I’d like it to be just yet! 🙈🎶

With the exam fast approaching, every practice session counts.

There’s still time to donate and support the fantastic berwickschoolsconcertband. Every penny raised helps provide opportunities for local young musicians to learn, perform and build confidence through music.

Right then… a slight change of content today and time for a little public embarrassment, all for a good cause. 🎶🙈

Many of you know that The Barn at Beal is a family-run business, and today we’re sharing a slightly more personal side of our family.

My youngest daughter, Ava, is a member of the berwickschoolsconcertband, and we’ve seen first-hand the opportunities, friendships and confidence that being part of the band gives young people across our area.

So, in a moment of madness, I’ve agreed to learn the clarinet myself and take my Grade 1 exam on 12th June!

The challenge? I’ve only had FOUR WEEKS to learn. 😳

To say I’m using the phrase “playing the clarinet” loosely would be an understatement! But if you’re brave enough to watch the video, I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d consider sponsoring or donating to support the berwickschoolsconcertband.

Every pound raised will help provide opportunities for local young musicians to learn, perform and continue making music together. My goal is to raise £1,000 for the band and, thanks to some incredibly generous support already, we’re over halfway there.

Please be gentle in the comments. Serving coffee and running a restaurant is much more in my comfort zone than performing music! 😂🎶
