That's a wrap on another season at Valleyside Escapes!🏕️Today we've put our tents into hibernation until Easter next year.💚

It's been a lovely season and not just because of the wall-to-wall sunshine! A few highlights worth sharing…
⛳ Our new pitch & putt mini-golf course has been a huge hit with our glampers.
🏖️ We managed to explore a little more of Devon ourselves, even during the busy summer holidays, and discovered the beautiful Blackpool Sands beach.
💝 We welcomed back three families for their SIXTH stay! Two families came twice – once in spring and again in summer – and one very special group brought four generations together to celebrate a 70th birthday.

And a HUGE thank you to our brilliant team, who definitely needed a few ice lollies to keep cool during the summer heat! 🍭☀️ We couldn't do it without you.

Congratulations to our sister business Valleyside Barn for being announced as a finalist in the South West region at the The Wedding Industry Awards.🎊 They are competing in the best barn venue category. It is great news and the third year in a row to be recognised across multiple industry awards! 🏆

This is particularly special because it is the third consecutive year that Valleyside Barn has been recognised through industry awards.

The South West region covers six counties – Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset and Wiltshire – so to be recognised across a vast region and amongst such a fantastic group of venues is something we’re incredibly proud of.

The biggest thank you goes to our couples.❤️We were nominated by a couple who married with us in August and couples who celebrated their weddings here over the past year then had the opportunity to vote and share their experiences. We also had to answer some pretty challenging questions! You can learn more about the awards process at the link below/in profile!

We’re also incredibly grateful to our brilliant team, who work alongside us in the run-up to each wedding and behind the scenes and at the bar on the day to help deliver the relaxed, seamless weddings we pride ourselves on.

The South West regional winners will be announced in Bristol on the 24th November.🤞

🍐 From Orchard to Plate! 🍰It’s one of our favourite times of year to bake, and we’re so lucky to have our own orchard full of fruit trees.

This week we collected some of our pears and turned them into a very yummy chocolate pear cake! 🍐🍫🍰

Next up? An apple crumble is definitely on the menu. 🍎

We better be quick though, as our friends at Rull Orchard will soon be collecting the fruit to use in their delicious c***r and perry! 🍎🍏🍐

🎣Matt had a nice surprise on our own private stretch of the River Exe yesterday when he landed this salmon!🐟

He’d already lost one a few minutes earlier when this fish decided to take his nymph – which was actually intended for a brown trout or grayling!

After a good fight on very light tackle, the salmon was safely landed, photographed quickly and released back into the river.

Not a bad way to spend an afternoon in Devon!

🐔 CHICKEN RUN! 🐔We're not quite sure how she managed it, but one of our chickens decided to make a break for it and was eventually found hiding amongst the weeds in the pond!

Cue Matt getting his waders on for a chicken rescue mission... 😂

Thankfully, she's now safely back with her other five feathered friends, and they're all happily getting on with the important job of producing eggs for us (and our glampers!).🥚

Peacock update! 🦚 Our colourful neighbour appears to be feeling the effects of the weather too... his beautiful feathers are shedding a whole month earlier than usual!

The good news? If you’re staying with us towards the end of the summer holidays, you might be lucky enough to find one of his feathers.🪶

We’ve been collecting the ones he’s left behind and popping them in our honesty shop, so you can take a little piece of Valleyside home with you.

New Beach!🏖️With Devon experiencing its 5th heatwave of the summer, a trip to the beach was definitely on the agenda this week!☀️

We decided to try somewhere new and headed to Blackpool Sands in South Devon - around 1 hour 20 minutes from Valleyside Escapes.

It’s a little further to travel, but the beautiful Devon countryside along the way made the journey fly by... and we think it’s well worth it!
🏖️ Beautiful fine shingle beach
🌿 Plenty of space to spread out
☕ Café for refreshments
🔥 And even a sauna!

It wasn’t too busy even in the height of summer and much fun was had on body boards - we will definitely be adding Blackpool Sands to our list of favourite Devon beaches.

🎉8 years of Valleyside Escapes! This week we celebrated 8 years since we unzipped the tents – and we can't quite believe how quickly the time has flown!

When we made our life-changing move to Devon, we had no idea quite how our adventure would evolve. It was a big leap into the unknown, but we wouldn't change a single thing.

And it definitely didn't look like this 8 years ago! 👀 See the empty field where it all began...

We're incredibly thankful to the amazing team who have been with us from the start. We genuinely couldn't do this without them.

We're also so grateful to all of you who have stayed with us over the years – especially those who keep coming back year after year. One of the loveliest parts of what we do is seeing familiar faces return... and watching how much the children have grown since their first visit! 🥰

One of the reasons we moved to Devon to run our own business was the dream of feeling like we were on holiday every day. The reality? Not quite like that but we're incredibly lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world, where exploring the coast and countryside is part of the job – and means we get to discover new places to recommend to our glampers.

Eight years, 10+ awards, lots of adventures and so many wonderful guests later...

Here's to Valleyside Escapes and whatever the next 8 years bring! 🥂💚
