If you fancy a few days by the sea my beautiful holiday cottage is available from today until next Friday. Do get in touch if I can answer any Questions or queries. We do except well-behaved dogs. We also have a travel cot and highchair available should they be required. Please note that all bookings have to go via our agency. I’m attaching some photographs of my cottage which is located in North Devon between Appledore and Westward Ho! It’s very close to a long sandy beach (Northam Burrows) And is located within very close walking distance to a local pub, supermarket, newsagents, Chinese takeaway, fish and chip shop and other Village facilities.j

A rather fantastic description of the local area:

Northam is a small village, lying north of Bideford and south of Westward Ho! There are many country walks around the village and the outlying areas, including the popular Northam Burrows, Appledore Quay and the nearby Westward Ho! Beach. It has a potted and interesting history filled with Saxon derring-do that’s worth more than a passing look too.

Local amenities include a supermarket with post office, newsagents and take-aways. There’s also a primary school, a health & dental centre and a number of churches in the area. Northam also has a decent public swimming pool and gym too. You’ll never be short of places to eat and drink with Appledore, Westward Ho! and Abbotsham on your doorstep with their cornucopia of restaurants and pubs. Being a coastal village, seafood is high on the menu, fresh from the morning’s catch, so be sure to patronise your local fishmonger, if that’s your thing. Golf enthusiasts will also have cause to celebrate because there’s a great championship course on the outskirts of Westward Ho! too. Westward Ho! is also very popular with surfers and body boarders, with many places to get lessons and hire kit for the beginner.

It’s within short driving distance of the Atlantic Highway (A39) that is the main feeder route across the region leading to Wadebridge in Cornwall to the south-west and to the M5 by Tiverton in the east. A very good regular bus services provides access to North Devon’s ‘capital’, Barnstaple. Bus users can also reach Westward Ho!, Bideford, Braunton, Appledore, Croyde and Ilfracombe with ease.

How do you holiday by the sea?

Are you a traditional ‘fish and chips after arcades and ice cream’ person, or a ‘remote beach walks at sunrise’ person - perhaps you’re a bit of both?
cottage is in the most amazing location!

Puffin Cottage is located very close to the sea, and within a very short walking distance to local independent shops including a craft/art shop, a newsagents with a huge array of magazines and local produce, a supermarket, Chinese takeaway, fish and chip shop, the Kingsley Arms (our local pub) which serves not only local beers but also fantastic food!

A short drive away or even a short bus run away are both Appledore which has a plethora of amazing restaurants and coffee shops, a harbour which during most evenings throughout the summer is full of children and adults alike with their crabbing lines. There is also a frequently run tidal ferry service which takes you across the estuary to Instow which is a wonderful place to visit with pubs, and a wonderful delicatessen and cafe (they also have one in Appledore!) Called Johns Which is well worth a visit.

Characterised by winding narrow streets and colourful houses, the charming village of Appledore sits at the confluence of the Taw and Torridge rivers with views across to Instow; it’s little surprise that the village is built on a tradition of fishing and boat building which still continues today.

Property review:
"Perfect for autumn or winter get away .. no problem with parking at this time of year in seasonal Carpark. Would be a different story in the summer. Excellent views, great pub, (Kingsley Inn) .. great locals with a great fish and chip shop where you can eat your take away in the pub. We were made very welcome on our time in the local on our nights there. Great place ."

Improvements suggested: (not displayed online)
"A well equipped kitchen, although I would suggest a pair of scissors in the drawer. As an organised couple we take along our own small slow cooker where we prepare our meal for each day before we leave ... obviously we do not expect to take along such items as to knives and scissors.. an essential part of kitchen equipment in our eyes. Cottage was comfortable, warm, bathroom was top notch, loved the shower and Bluetooth mirror. TV in bedroom was perfect as most cottages do not have this ."
