Look there we are! It’s the reason so many walkers stay with us to explore this stunning and tough section in small chunks, and to explore the many paths diverging from the main trail.
🥾 Many hikers say this is the hardest stretch of the South West Coast Path
Hartland Quay âžť Bude
Steep climbs, remote cliffs and relentless ups and downs. But the scenery along this section of the North Devon and Cornwall coast makes the effort worthwhile.
Here are some of the highlights along the route:
🔵 Hartland Quay
A dramatic starting point with jagged rock formations and waves crashing into the cliffs.
🔵 Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall
A 48-foot waterfall dropping straight onto the beach. A short detour from the path brings you to the viewpoint.
🔵 Welcombe Mouth Beach
A remote, rugged bay where you’ll often have the coastline completely to yourself.
🔵 Hawker’s Hut, Morwenstow
Britain’s smallest National Trust property, built from driftwood by Reverend Robert Hawker.
🔵 Duckpool Beach
A wild beach at the mouth of a valley stream. A good place to rest before continuing north.
🔵 Sandymouth Bay
Cliffs tower above a wide beach as you approach Bude. There’s a seasonal café here too.
🔵 Bude
The finish line. Time to grab a hot meal and rest your legs.
📍 This section is over 15 miles of tough coastal terrain, so start early and pack well.
