Westward Ho! with it's 3 mile beach and Pebble Ridge which is the largest natural sea barrier in Europe. This beach resort is abt a mile or so from Woodpeckers

If biking is your thing, then the Tarka Trail is certainly for you!

It's literally just down the road from Woodpeckers, the nearest access point being the old Bideford railway station. You won't be disappointed - I cycle along this very route quite often during the summer months. And if you don't have bikes, there are several bike hire places.

This section (again entirely traffic free) takes you up the Torridge Estuary. With the river on your left, the path continues on the old railway bed. THE iconic schooner, the Kathleen and May, will be setting sail for Bideford this summer as it plans a homecoming trip to the town.

The River Torridge is walking distance from Woodpeckers - A Devonshire Holiday Home :-)

Historic schooner will be visiting Bideford for the first time since she sailed away in 2011.
