A Birmingham weekend does not have to cost a fortune.

We have put together 17 genuinely free things to do — museums, canal walks, parks, galleries and a few less obvious spots — written for people staying with us in Coleshill.

Useful if you are:

• here for a show at the NEC or bp pulse LIVE
• flying from Birmingham Airport and have a spare morning
• after a city day without the city-centre hotel prices

Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is free. So are the cathedral, Ikon, the canals and a good stretch of Digbeth street art. We have been honest about the catches too — including the Library’s rooftop garden, which is closed for now.

Staying outside the centre? We are around 10 minutes from the NEC and the airport, with free parking. Book direct and save 15%.
