An exciting archaeology announcement to be made...

We've been dropping hints, and finally here is all the information you need to know about our archaeological excavations happening at the tomb - this month! Buckle in, we have a lot to share with you.

We are delighted to be welcoming the Orkney Research Centre for Archaeology (ORCA) to start three weeks of excavation at the tomb from 24th August until 11th September. Archaeologists will be investigating the hornwork feature at the north side of the tomb so that we can have a better understanding of how the tomb was built. They will be onsite Monday to Friday, come by to see them at work!

As well as this, we are having an Archaeology Weekend on the 29th and 30th August, where there will be tours, hands on activities for all ages, Hrossey Raptors (Saturday 29th) and local artist Kim Mitchell (Sunday 30th) on site.

Even more exciting... You can get involved! During the Archaeology Weekend we will be having a community dig at the tomb, where you can get your hands dirty (literally) and try some archaeology for yourself. Numbers are limited so please get in touch for more information at [email protected]. We especially would like to encourage members of our local community in South Ronaldsay and Burray to get involved.

Keep an eye on our website for info and dig updates!
