Meet the staff - John 🏴
John, one of our kitchen porters, was born and raised in Dundee, Scotland. John's love affair with Blackpool started long before he lived here. Family trips to the seaside had him hooked from an early age, and when he came down for what was meant to be "just a weekend" at the age of 21... well, that weekend is still going! Safe to say, he never made it back to Dundee, and Blackpool has been home ever since.
John's first job in town was at the Park House as a kitchen porter, and it's a role he's well and truly mastered over the years. These days, you'll find him keeping our kitchen running like clockwork at the Craig Y Don, washing mountains of dishes, keeping everything sparkling clean, and making sure the chefs have exactly what they need. It's one of those jobs that often goes unnoticed until it isn't done, and John does it brilliantly.
When he's off duty, John enjoys relaxing with a good film, taking on the latest challenges on his PS5, or heading out for walks with his dog. He's also surprisingly handy with a paintbrush and roller, having a real talent for painting and decorating. And while Blackpool may have stolen his heart, he still enjoys the occasional trip back to Dundee to catch up with family and friends.
John tells us that his favourite part of being at the Craig Y Don is his teammates. For him, it's the people he works alongside that make the job, and that sense of camaraderie is what keeps every shift enjoyable.
