It's that time of year again when preparations are being made for the Baldivis Black Dog Rude in March 2026. Ken and I are organising it and taking over the reins from tge other couple at the Ulysses Club who had been running it hmfor 10 years. The annual event is a charity ride to fundraise for the cause of depression. Here are some pics of last year's event.

Loving the life over here on the roads....I'm now the owner of a Suzuki Boulevard (I think it's a Volusia in Britain. Getting a dog for Ethan had to come first) and we're members of a local club. Lots of lovely stopping places and ride outs through beautiful countryside,so now cage stops at the Jarradale General Store (really a cafe) and Yvette's at Pickering Brook are a regular fixture (work allowing).

Hello again....in case you were wondering....this is where the 3 of us ended up: Australia lol! We managed to get 1 of the bikes over, namely Ken's Indian because it is newer and has a rare design. It finally arrived towards the end of November, shortly after the rest of our stuff and it has been well used. Boxing Day late afternoon (when it was cooler), I took it for a spin around Safety Bay and the foreshore near Rickingham, where we're all now settled and living a great life. Even got to see Guns n Roses perform in Perth in November!

Now that winter is over (well, it's supposed to be), work starts on the bikes, with this Kawasaki Z250 bought off Ebay as a restoration project, which has since had finishing touches put to it since the warmer weather, with a newer tank replacement. This weekend looks like the start of the season, kicking off with a rally around the South West with different prizes according to how far participants have travelled. Ken goes on this tomorrow with his Indian, while I have to miss it to help my daughter arrange something for her wedding in May.

All done, great test ride on the R18. It's a bike that turns heads! Bad points: obviously can't put feet forward because the cylinders are in the way and the basic seat is hard. Good points: holds the road well and is sturdy (no wobbles and a very easy bike to get used to) not too heavy (between a Triumph Speedmaster and a Harley), fabulously fluid gears, good at turning, good acceleration and has 3 modes: roll (for a cruisey smoother ride), rock (for a more aggressive, torquey ride) and rain (self-explanatory). There is also a choice of 2 other seats that are a lot more padded and softer on the bum, the better of which is the one with the pillion seat.

Just counting down the hours before I test ride the BMW R18, apparently only the second cruiser that BMW has released. With an1800cc engine, it's the most powerful motorbike I will have ever ridden. Wish me luck!

Ethan starting his biking career. In spring he was too frightened to ride pillion but once summer had taken hold he lost his fear and Ken took him round the neighbourhood block then up around the Downs another day the week before last. On Friday we took him to get kitted out at J&S with gloves, a jacket and a helmet, plus a pillion belt with hand grips. Then Ethan came pillion with me for the first time down the Bristol ring road home. Never felt his weight and he leaned with me. I just knew I'd got the right bike with Ethan in mind for this. A big thank you to Bruce and Mandy Robertson who rode from the Borders with their son Harris as pillion to Valhalla on more than one occasion, as they inspired us to get Ethan kitted out and riding at age 7, like they did with Harris.

Twice yearly autojumble with loads of second hand/new bike parts, clothing and accessories at Ross-on-Wye last week, complete with cafe selling breakfast rolls and hot drinks. Ken was looking for parts to do up his project Kawasaki Z250 and I was on the hunt for kevlar/leather trousers. I found a pair of BMW armoured leather trousers and a light 3/4 length leather jacket which matched beautifully, both hardly worn and bargains (no, Ken didn't buy the BSA helmet).

Just back from a fab couple of days touring on the bikes with Ken and the men through Wales to the Midlands, stopping off to see the National Motorcycle Museum with no less than 850 motorbikes dating from near the turn of last century. All topped off with amazing England victory last night and a tour through the Cotswolds via Moreton in the Marsh today.
