Places to see when visiting Lewis & Harris, borrowed from another post.
Lewis
(1) Butt of Lewis Light House plus wee scenic beach ,high cliffs and wild sea birds.
(3) Port of Ness Harbour, nice beach (toilet in cafe at top of hill overlooking harbour and beach)
(2) Europie beach. Park your car and walk about 100 yards down to a large beach with sand dunes, sea can get rough here.
(4) Garry Beach, very scenic beach with caves and stacks. By New Tolsta
(5) Traigh Mor or Big Beach Toilets in Car Park, long beach with sand dunes.High cliffs at far end. Sea Eagles nesting on cliffs.You can walk round the cliffs a wee bit at low tide.By New Tolsta
(6) Tolsta Head. High Cliffs,with natural arches caves and nesting sea eagles
(7) Giordale Beach and Harbour. ( Tolsta ) Park at top of hill and walk down the road to the beach, steep walk back up to your car .
(8)Tumpan Head Lighthouse and cliffs, wild sea birds, wildlife at large pond .
(9) Coll Sands, park and walk by the old caravan site turn right on the beach and walk to the caves at low tide.
(10) Blue Whale Jaw Bone, arch, largest jaw bone ever.
(11) Black house Museum.
(12) Black House Village and Museum .
(12A) Dalmore Sands, Nice Beach,Oil Rig ran aground here in 2016.
(12B) Dalbeg Bay
(13) Dun Carloway Broch and Visitors Centre
(14) Callanish Standing Stones and Visitors Centre, they are older than Stonehenge , mid summers night here at midnight is daylight.
(15) B***a beach,on the far side of the isle of Great Bernera ( Lewis ) See the (Tide Bell) at low tide and here it ring at high, see the old Iron Age House Museum. Nice Beach
(16) Reef Beach ( Toilets ) Camp site , Very Nice Beach
(17) Cliobh or Cliff Beach. Lovely Sands and nice walk round to 2nd beach at low tide
(18) Uig Sands ( Toilets in Cafe ) Largest Beach in Lewis .
(18B) Carnais Beach .
(19) Mangersta Sands and Cliffs. Park at the side of the narrow rd at the sign ( To the beach ) and walk down, there are cliffs and stacks to the right of the beach if you walk round.
Harris
(20) Park at Hushinish and do the cliff walk along to two lovely wee remote beaches.
(21) Slipway to the Island of Scarp ( Rocket Post )
(22) Hushinish Beach
(23) Amhinnsuidhe Castle, Lovely views in and around the Castle, Great view just past the castle at the top of the hill towards Hushinish looking back.
(24) Old Whaling Station
(25) Rainiganale. Up to 1988 .The only way of getting here was by Boat or a long walk from Tarbert.
(26) Tarbert . (Toilet) Main Town of Harris.
(27) Luskentyre (Toilet in Car Park) A scenic drive along a single track rd to the car park at the end and a wee walk down to the sands. Largest beach on the islands, Stunning Views.
(28) Seilebost. Other side of the Large beach from Luskintyre. Stunning Views .
(29) Horgabost Beach. ( Toilets, Even a fridge you can cool your drinks), lovely walk to the beach.
(30) ( Scarista Beach and Golf Course , 2nd largest beach on the islands, the beach starts at Northton at low tide and runs along the side of the road, park just before the Golf Course and walk through the the machair and sand dunes down to the beach,very senic Beach was once an Airfield, Muriel Gray Got married here at 6am .
(31) Northton Beaches (wee Cafe here, open Sundays too) drive through the village and down to the beach or walk to the 2nd beach.
(32) Leverburgh and Ferry for St Kilda and Berneray ( Shops,Toilets )
(33) St Clements Church,Rodel, Well worth going inside for a look, there is a wee harbour and hotel round the corner.
(34) Scalpay Lighthouse, Oldest on the Islands, getting here is by a good walk
(35) Isle of Scalpay, There is now a bridge Across. First village you will find a Concrete Ship at the side of the pier, build during the war when there was a shortage of steel.
There are lots of other places like The Golden Road south of Tarbert take the single track rd down the East side. Stunning views around every corner, plus some parts of south east Lewis that i have not mentioned.
