The Chelsea Hotel Farewell
It’s a bittersweet moment as we announce the end of The Chelsea Hotel, but the memories and gratitude make the sadness easier to bear.
Looking back over the years, I’m filled with pride, warmth, and immense appreciation for everyone who helped shape this place into what it became.
First and foremost, I want to thank our long-serving housekeepers, Sou and Emma. You have been the most incredible and dedicated team members I could ever have wished for. Your loyalty, work ethic, and humour have truly been the soul of this hotel. I’ll always treasure the laughter we shared over breakfast and during cleaning, those everyday moments that made The Chelsea feel like family.
To our guests: both the familiar faces who returned time after time, and those who stayed with us just once, thank you. Words can’t fully express how grateful I am for your support. Each visit, each story, and each smile added to the character and warmth of this place. Whether you were here for a single night or came back year after year, you were all part of The Chelsea’s story.
A definite highlight was taking part in and (spoiler alert) winning the TV show Four in a Bed! What an experience that was, truly one of those unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime moments that still makes me smile.
Over the years, The Chelsea became far more than a business. It grew into a gathering place for family and friends, hosting Christmases, birthdays, New Years, and countless celebrations. It wasn’t just a hotel; it became a home, a hub of joy, laughter, and connection.
Another unforgettable chapter was making it through the Covid years. Like so many in hospitality, it tested us in every way, but it also pushed us to adapt. During that time, we opened our doors to families needing temporary accommodation and, through that, met so many kind and resilient people. Those daily chats in the hallways and the friendships that followed brought meaning and light to a difficult time. I still keep in touch with some of those faces on social media, and it’s wonderful to see how their lives have unfolded. Every one of them contributed to the story of this hotel.
The decision to sell began some time ago, and although it hasn’t been easy, it feels right. The hospitality industry in Bournemouth has slowed, especially over the past year and I’m grateful to be able to close this chapter on a positive note, with pride in what we’ve achieved and peace in knowing it’s the right moment to step away.
And so, as we say goodbye, our parting message from all at The Chelsea Hotel is simple:
THANK YOU.
Without guests, a hotel is just a building. You gave it life, laughter, and purpose. You allowed us to do what we love, and for that, I’ll always be deeply thankful.
Though our doors are closing, the spirit of The Chelsea, the warmth, the welcome, and the memories will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to be part of it.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing in this incredible journey - Chris x
