Downie’s Cottage is thought to be have been the highest working ‘croft’ in Scotland located high on the shoulder of Morrone with breathtaking views over the village of Braemar and the Dee valley in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The property was abandoned sometime between the wars and although the steading was damaged by fire many years ago, the house remained largely as an undisturbed
time capsule complete with box beds and victorian christmas cards. On discovering this gem Historic Scotland has determined it is a building of national importance and has listed it as Category A and it is currently being restored to provide a new lease of life for the 21st Century.
