Just two villages away from us !
This Scottish village looks like it was frozen in time.
Gearrannan Blackhouse Village sits on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, preserving a traditional way of life that shaped island communities for generations.
The restored blackhouses date mainly from the 1800s. Their thick double stone walls and thatched roofs were designed to withstand the harsh Hebridean climate, using natural materials found locally.
Families here lived through crofting, farming, fishing, weaving, and peat cutting, with many relying on the land and sea for their livelihoods.
The village continued to be occupied into the 20th century, with the last residents leaving the old blackhouses in the early 1970s. The settlement was then preserved as a conservation area because this traditional style of housing had almost disappeared.
Today, visitors can walk among the restored homes and experience a glimpse of traditional Hebridean life.
