John Ray - our local hero from the Tudor period is known as the father of botany amongst many achievements. In an era of myth and wife’s tales, he was the first to start cataloging plants according to plant families and giving botany terms and descriptions such as mono cotyledons.
He was born and buried at Black Notley, home to our family farm base.
