Acorn Cottage, Northern Lakes Acorn Cottage is a delightful holiday cottage situated in the village of Braithwaite, 3 miles from K Situated in the middle of Braithwaite.

The Cottage is available for rental all year round and is in an ideal location to explore the Northern Lakes. just off the A66 less than 3 miles from Keswick, between Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite, you are on the edge of the most fantastic scenery nestling between the peaks of Skiddaw and the Lake District's own Matterhorn - Grisedale Pike. You can walk Coledale Horseshoe or head up the Newlands

Valley to Cat Bells and beyond by foot. Or take your bike on the quiet local roads or up the fantastic trail centre at Whinlatter Forest. The beautiful villages and scenery of Buttermere, Loweswater and Borrowdale are minutes away by car or bus. The cottage sleeps 5 (double, twin and single rooms), fully fitted kitchen and bathroom and a large lounge/dining room. There is a patio outside with table, chairs and barbecue if you fancy cooking Cumbrian Sausages or some wonderful Lakeland Lamb. Alternatively enjoy local food and beers at the Royal Oak, Coledale Inn or Middle Ruddings Hotel.

One of our easier walks from Keswick to Threlkeld through Brundholme Wood, visiting Threlkeld Coffee Shop en route and back along the K2T trail. If you don't fancy the walk back you can always get the bus!

An easy low level route from Keswick to Threlkeld through lovely woodland, returning by the K2T Trail.

Nice article featuring a couple of very local walks to do this autumn. A particular favourite of ours and guests of all ages is Force Crag Mine. Nice steady well made path but absolutely no phone signal! It also makes a good 5 mile run or bike ride with kids, just be aware you have to go up the steep bit at the bottom of Whinlatter Pass to the little car park to access the path.
Also the views from Walla Crag are fabulous. We would suggest parking at Great Wood Car Park (free for NT members) and heading up through the woods, coming down to Ashness Bridge. Take a flask and sandwich and enjoy the views.

Getting out into nature is great for the mind, body and soul, and Cumbria offers unbeatable walking opportunities for all abilities
