After being closed over the winter our neighbours over at Lanercost Priory reopen this weekend! ⛪

Lanercost Priory is one of Cumbria's best preserved monasteries. Part of its great 13th-century church is still in use today, and the roofless east end still stands to its full height, with a dramatic triple tier of arches.

Come down to Lanercost from 10:00 on the 28th March to explore this serene setting for yourself 🎟

An unmarked Roman altar sits in the grounds of Drumburgh Castle on the line of Hadrian’s Wall west of Carlisle. The building is almost entirely built of stone from the Wall and fort of Congabata

This beautiful old map of Northumberland showing Hadrian's Wall is from Ellis's 'New and Correct Atlas of England and Wales' (1819). So little has changed in this wonderfully rural county 🌿

This was a significant cartographic work. The atlas, containing maps engraved by James Wallis, was a re-issue of Wallis's 'A New and Improved County Atlas' from 1812. Later hand coloured.
