At Borth beach, the ebbing tide today revealed the skeletal remains of an ancient forest that died during the late Stone Age, approximately 6000 years ago.

Though it’s called the , the stumps and root systems are actually soft wood preserved in an anaerobic peat layer, usually only visible at low tide when a recent storm has stripped away the covering sediment.

Borth isa very scenic 2 hour drive from Brecon. Small but mighty, Wales is full of surprises 💕

From Pennarth in the South, to Flint in the north, Wales has 30 primary coastal lifeboat stations.

Today we got to visit the station at Borth and admire it’s D class lifeboat up close. The literal workhorse of the RNLI for 60 years 😍😍😍! Thank you so much to the lovely lady who showed us around💕 I’m not naming you for obvious reasons but you made my day.

Between us K and I spent over a quarter century at sea before settling here at the borderers. We ❤️ you

Thanks to K’s generous offer to hold the fort, I was able to enjoy a rare few hours out on the Welsh coast.

The scenery was stunning, the weather was kind and I discovered two perfect ethical gems, both woman owned small businesses.

- (pic1 to 4) Smashed Raspberry The remarkably inclusive menu offers an inventive range of vegetarian options. I loved my hot honey halloumi on sourdough and my friend adored her mighty green jacket potato. And the coffee was strong and served at the perfect temperature😍 what else could you ask for? Oh wait. Sam, whose baby it is, is warm, generous and just an all round good egg💕 despite all the trauma she has been put through for her activism.

- Pic 6 Tŷ Filasteen They have a brilliant range of Palestinian goods for sale, I went straight for the recipe books and food of course😂 picked up some rich and fruity olive oil, Akawi cheese that I have been dying to find and best of all, actual Zaatar, the herb, not the condiment (iykyk) they have so much more!

My dad served in the navy for 33 years, Kevin worked offshore for 20 and I did for 6. We know first hand the unspeakable beauty as well as the merciless wrath of the open ocean.

Regardless, the brave women and men of the RNLI, the best of Britain, who go out in all imaginable conditions, putting their own lives at risk to save people they don’t know. They have our deepest, most heartfelt gratitude. We will always support you.

Apricot jam has its own level in the world of preserves. I used to think of it as something to stick fondant to cakes. But it really is such a pretty colour and it has a delicate floral flavour that keeps you coming back for more!

What better than supermarket apricot jam you ask?

Homemade apricot jam make by me! Packed full of chunky fruit. Perfect on hot seedy buttery toast. It will be part of our breakfast service for as long as apricots are in season.

This is one of the best exhibitions I’ve ever been to. Meg Stevens captured the beauty of the Brecon Beacons in a photo realistic/ impressionist style that had me walking towards and away from paintings in a sort of manic wonder.

The view from Mynnydd Illtud this week and her painting Brecon Beacons with Autumn Bracken painted over 14 years ago are an almost exact match. Even though she phased away in 2012, I see her spirit in the landscapes of the Brecon Beacons.

One of the lesser known but heartwarming quaint events of Brecon jazz is the Brecon flower show. This year’s theme was ‘movies’ and my favourite was the Wizard of Oz display.

The hand made figures are being auctioned to raise funds for a dementia charity and the beautiful Plough Chapel in which the flower show is held.
