Dear Guests,

Just like that, it’s time... With a heavy heart and immense gratitude, I’m writing to let you know that we’ve closed our doors for the final time this morning. It’s hard to believe, but today marks the end of an unforgettable journey for De Rougemont Manor, a place that’s been filled with love, laughter, celebrations, and memories for the past 55 years.

Since the hotel first welcomed guests in 1969, when we were known as The New World Inn, it has become more than just a hotel. It’s been a place where so many special moments were shared, whether it was an overnight stay, a beautiful wedding day, an important business meeting, a swim in the pool, a Christmas party, or even those legendary nights at Pinkies Bar (I’ve heard more stories about the 70s-90s antics there than I can count)!

I want to take a moment to personally recognize the Hilton family, Davine, Victoria, Jason, and their late father, Ian Hilton. With a vison in the early days of turning a Manor House into a hotel & country club they succeeded! Over the past 55 years, they’ve done so much more than build and run this hotel; they’ve lived it. Growing up within these walls, they poured their heart and soul into making it what it is today -a place filled with warmth, hospitality, and genuine care. I’ve been lucky enough to witness that dedication firsthand over my 16 years here, and it’s been an honour to work alongside them.

To our amazing staff, past and present, you are the true heartbeat of this place. Your passion, dedication, and hard work are why our guests have left with smiles, fond memories, and so many reasons to return. I’m incredibly proud to have worked alongside each and every one of you. Thank you for everything.

And to you, our guests, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for trusting us with your most precious moments. Whether you visited us just once or became part of the De Rougemont family, your support has meant the world to me, and to all of us here.

Although we’re closing our doors today, the memories we’ve created together will live on. I know I’ll be carrying them with me forever, and I’m sure many of you will too.

Dear Guests,

I write today to share some sad news in respect of the future of De Rougemont Manor. Whilst many will know that over the last 4 years since the arrival of the COVID pandemic the hotel has been undergoing a planning application for the change of use to revert back to residential development. This application was approved in March 2023.

Following the approval last year the hotel was scheduled to close in October 2023, however due to some uncertainty at that time we continued trading and have had the pleasure of another memorable year. Following an update it has now been confirmed that development works will start at the end of 2024, meaning that the hotel will stop trading on Sunday 29th September 2024.

I can confirm we will continue trading at the hotel right up to this date, at which point the hotel will then close. We can take some comfort in knowing that after the hotel closes the grounds within the hotel will become available for public use, and many original features of the hotel and banqueting suite will remain, including being locally listed as a building of historic interest. All plans are available via the Brentwood planning portal and you can see how the developers have put the scheme together which will not only preserve and restore the buildings, but also enhance them and the grounds.

Whilst this news brings a mixture of emotions, predominantly sadness, not just personally having worked at the hotel for 16 years, it also brings great sadness to all our loyal staff including those who have been with us 20+ years, and of course the Hilton family who have now owned the hotel for a staggering 56 years!

Many of us have been very privileged to share such fantastic memories and times at the hotel and I know for so many this place holds such a special place in our hearts, as it does mine. We have held countless weddings, overnight stays, parties, celebrations, corporate events and much, much more!

It’s now important that we look to the good times ahead. I can be sure of one thing; we will be going out with a summer to remember. We will still be running the hotel to our high standards and ensuring that right up until our last guest we continue to maintain the fantastic reputation we are known for. We will continue to invest into the hotel over the next few months wherever work may be required.

Please continue to work with us, as our team start to reach out to many of our fantastic suppliers and guests who this may affect.

I sincerely hope that over the next 10 weeks you will be able to join us in celebrating our many years here and remember all the good times as we welcome you once more.
