Upton Cressett Hall and Gardens Upton Cressett Hall is a Grade 1 moated Elizabethan brick manor with a spectacular 15th original Grea Group tours Monday - Friday all year by appointment.

Upton Cressett Hall is a Grade 1 moated Elizabethan brick manor with a spectacular 15th original Great Hall set in an unspoilt and romantic landscape near the Shropshire market town of Bridgnorth. Shropshire Magazine have described the Hall as 'one of the finest Tudor houses in Britain'. The manor was the historic home of the Cressett family for centuries, before Sir Bill Cash MP and his family be

gan living there from 1970 until their author and publisher son William took over responsibility in 2007. Today, Upton Cressett Hall is the family home of William and his wife, Lady Laura, along with their labrador Cressetta and pug Thimble. Laura is a milliner with a workshop in the grounds where she is creating England's first 'Millinery Garden'. The new gardens at Upton Cressett have been designed and planted by Lindsay Bousefield and the celebrated Shropshire gardener and writer Dr Katherine Swift (author of The Morville Hours). The gardens include Lady Laura's Rose Garden (with David Austin Shropshire roses); The Elizabethan Garden; The Topiary Garden; the Moat Walk (with rare fowl) and the Church Walk. Any visitor to Upton Cressett must also stop by the beautiful Grade 1 Norman Church of St Michael, which has stood beside the Hall since the 11th century. It is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust and is open every day of the year with free entry. The church was recently selected as one of only four Anglo-Saxon or Norman churches in the country to be included in a book by the Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) celebrating the most Beautiful English Churches, with a foreword by HRH Prince of Wales. Our beloved Uncle Joe, head tour guide and resident archaeologist at would have been 70 today. He tragically died, aged just 69, in December 2025 and is greatly missed by all friends of upton cressett and his family. The ancient Upton Cressett - since his early 20s- was the love of his life and he was reborn here in his final years as a great tour guide and chief mower where he spent hours every day on his beloved Stihl mower. After years of depression and mental health issues , he found happiness here and we placed some flowers in his grave today in the church yard of St Michael’s Upton Cressett where he mowed the grass like a croquet lawn. The Knight of the Stihl will not be forgotten

For some reason Rex is wearing his cricket 🏏 whites for a visit to Wenlock Priory which is my favourite local picnic spot. The Cluniac monastery used to be one of the biggest in England and the pubs in the high street used to be medieval pilgrim hostels - visiting to see the relics of St Milburga, a Midlands princess who was the abbey's second abbess.

The snow drops are now out at the Norman church of St Michael's whose grass was so lovingly mown and looked after by my late uncle Jonathan. We had a family toast and graveside prayer to him on 22nd Feb which would have been his 69th birthday. Our gardener Mike planted some lovely spring flowers 🌷 to mark the occasion
