B4555 road closure in Knowle Sands planned for 18th August to sort the collapsed sewer pipe outside The Swan Inn.

Better late than never, but they have known it is definitely sewage that is leaking from further up the road since 2nd August.

I do not know exactly where the road will be closed, or at what times, as they have not provided any other details.

SERIOUS HEALTH WARNING

Unfortunately, we are once again having problems with Severn Trent at the former Swan Inn.

The two photographs show the current situation: sewage and the weeds that seem to be thriving in it. I stopped clearing the weeds once I suspected that what was coming through was sewage.

The mystery was finally solved **nine days ago**, when Severn Trent identified raw sewage escaping from a broken pipe associated with one of the nearby terraced houses. Despite that, no action has yet been taken to resolve the problem.

That means anyone walking through the affected area is potentially walking through **raw sewage**.

What makes this particularly frustrating is that I have been reporting this problem for years. Waste Water and Clean Water repeatedly appeared to pass responsibility between one another, despite me explaining exactly what I believed the problem to be and asking them specifically to investigate it.

Once again, I gave Severn Trent full access to my property and land. It was only after I persisted and insisted that they investigate the issue I had identified that the broken sewage pipe was finally found.

The pipe appears to have been installed to serve one of the terraced houses while we were away on holiday, and this is now the issue Severn Trent has identified as the source of the sewage.

This is unfortunately part of a much longer history of difficulties we have experienced with Severn Trent over several years, including correspondence which their legal department has subsequently claimed not to have received.

I am posting this because the current situation is plainly unacceptable. Once a raw sewage leak has been identified, particularly somewhere people may walk, I would expect it to be dealt with as a matter of urgency — not left unresolved for another nine days and counting.

What a fantastic picture from local historian, Clive Gwilt, showing The Swan Inn back in 1972. Can anyone describe where exactly the bar was at that time? Any further pictures and details would be much appreciated.

Historic records search results just in and I still cannot find out anything about the pub. The record says it only became a pub in the 1960s. For people that know the area from back then, does that seem credible? Prior to that, the record shows a building and a former piggery which was demolished and then additions were made to the building.
