Red Lodge 1-0 Steeple Bumpstead

Red Lodge, proudly sponsored by Hamelin Paperbrands Limited, Crest Nicholson, Lodge Pizza and Kebab and Sunny, played host to 4th placed Steeple Bumpstead at West Row.

Line-up: Sievewright, Goddard S, Fenner, Bonner (c), Callear, Stevens, Parr, Goddard T, Warnock, Barnard, Atkinson.
Subs: Farmer, Trickey, Diaper, Beeton

After having an extended break due to the adverse weather, Lodge were looking to extend their lead at the top of Senior B to 11 points.

It was a very cagey start with Lodge dominating possession without really creating any clear cut chances. The pitch was a little bobbly and this played into the hands of Bumpstead when their striker latched on to a stray back pass to nip in ahead of the home goalkeeper. Thankfully the striker was adjudged to have dived over the tackle and he was duly cautioned.

HT: RLFC 0-0 Steeple

Lodge started the 2nd half pushing for the win. Chances came and went with Barnard, Atkinson and Goddard going close.

Diaper and Trickey were introduced after the hour mark to give fresh impetus as the hosts seeked the breakthrough.

One final roll of the dice saw Beeton replace Atkinson and finally Lodge got the goal they deserved. After a corner from the right, the ball found it's way to super-sub Trickey who curled past the keeper from the edge of the box.

FT: RLFC 1-0 Steeple

Despite a somewhat lethargic performance, there were some positives and the result proved to be so important and has helped increase the advantage over the chasing pack as Lodge chase the Senior B title.

March Town United Res 1-6 Red Lodge FC
Red Lodge FC, proudly sponsored by Hamelin Paperbrands Limited, Crest Nicholson Red Lodge Pizza & Kebab uk and Sunny, made the long trip to March on a wet and wintery afternoon hoping to avenge a Cup defeat earlier in the season.

Again Lodge boasted a strong squad as they looked to maintain their lead at the top of Kershaw Senior B.

Lineup: Mil, Goddard S, Walker ©, Bonner, Callear, Ford, Parr, Gale, Warnock, Barnard, Atkinson. Subs: Stevens, Jamieson, Dobson, Sievewright.

Lodge started the game playing into a strong wind and always knew the first half was going to be a real battle as the conditions and pitch continued to worsen.

Midway through the first half, after a fairly even start, Lodge broke the deadlock through a fine finish from Atkinson. The referee waved away the protests of offside from the home defence much to the relief of the visitors.

The lead didn’t last too long as the March midfielder broke through a tackle on the half-way line before releasing the forward to slot past Mil.

The away side restored their lead shortly before half-time with Atkinson again the scorer. After good work from Ford, Barnard laid on to Atkinson who exquisitely curled the ball into the corner leaving the goalkeeper helpless.

HT: March Town Utd Res 1 -2 RLFC

Lodge started the 2nd half brightly looking to put the result out of any doubt and Atkinson was a denied a hattrick after the linesman adjudged him to have strayed offside.

However, he did not have to wait too long before another chance arrived. After great defensive work, Ford strode away before releasing Barnard down the right hand side. He looked up and found Atkinson with a perfect pass and he lifted the ball past the legs of the onrushing keeper. It was real smart finish from Lodge's top-scorer.

Lodge began to stamp their authority on the game and goals continued to arrive a regular intervals throughout the second half.

Bonner added the first of two goals after meeting a cross in to the box. He rose above all the defenders and celebrated as his downward header deflected off a defender before nestling in the bottom corner.

The 5th Lodge goal, and arguably the best of the day, came from substitute Stevens as he broke out of midfield and unleashed an unstoppable drive from 30 yards that left the keeper rooted to the spot.

Bonner then rounded off the scoring with another fine header after a pinpoint corner from Stevens.

It capped a great performance from all the players especially given the conditions of the pitch and highlighted the strength in depth the club has when all 4 subs who came on made telling contributions during the win.

A great all-round performance from Ford, an exceptional hattrick from Atkinson and a wonder strike from Stevens were not good enough to be crowned man of the match. Club God Trev gave that award to the age-defying Matt Bonner for yet another commanding display at the back topped off with 2 goals that took him to an impressive 9 for the season.

Again we’d like to thank the travelling fans for supporting the boys despite the less than favourable weather conditions.

Red Lodge FC 7 -4 Bluntisham Rangers FC

Red Lodge FC, proudly sponsored by Hamelin Paperbrands Limited, Crest Nicholson, Red Lodge Pizza & Kebab uk and Sunny hosted Bluntisham Rangers at their temporary home in West Row looking to build on last week’s 3-2 win against promotion rivals Huntingdon FC.

Lodge welcomed new signing Konrad Mil into the squad and he deputised for the absent Liam Trickey between the sticks.

Lineup: Mil, Goddard S, Walker ©, Bonner, Callear, Stevens, Parr, Goddard T, Atkinson, Barnard, Birch. Subs: Warnock, Dobson, Farmer

Lodge started the game incredibly fast and despite not taking the kick-off, found themselves 1-0 up after only 15 seconds. Bonner’s cleared header found Birch, whose deft touch allowed Barnard to race clear and slot past the keeper.

Unfortunately for the Bluntisham defence they just couldn’t deal with the movement of the front pair and Lodge found themselves 2-0 to the good with barely 3 minutes on the clock. A pinpoint deep cross from right-back Goddard S was met by a powerful header from Barnard that left the goalkeeper no chance.

Trev hadn’t even managed to get his gloves back on before he was updating his schedule with a third Lodge goal. This time following some tidy intricate passing in the midfield Parr burst forward onto the throughball and smashed between the legs of the visiting keeper. The pre-game talk of starting fast had certainly registered with the home team however if they felt it would be plain sailing they were wrong.

Bluntisham reduced the deficit to 3-1 after 25 mins when their winger regained his balance to curl home brilliantly from the edge of the box.

The home side received a freekick on the half-way line shortly before half-time and Callear’s delivery was perfect for the onrushing Birch to power home for his 3rd goal in as many games since joining.

There was still time for Lodge to get a 5th before half-time and it arrived from the head of Parr. Barnard’s drilled in corner is proving to be a potent weapon and Parr got away from his marker to use the pace on the ball and control the header into the net.

HT: RLFC 5-1 Bluntisham Rangers

The 2nd half started as a mirror image of the first with 2 goals shared within a couple of minute or the resumption. Firstly the visitors struck after a knock-down from a deep free-kick was lashed home from inside the box.

Lodge replied almost immediately with Barnard completing his hattrick. After turning his man he showed great strength and speed to get away before finishing with great composure. It was really important to react so quickly to ensure Bluntisham didn’t find a way back in to the game.

Bluntisham scored a third after poor marking at a freekick left the experienced substitute a free header from 10 yards.

Again Lodge responded well with Atkinson getting on the scoresheet. From a throw-in, he shrugged off the attentions of the defender before executing a classy right-footed finish into the corner for 7-3.

Despite one final further goal from the Bluntisham top scorer Lodge had done more than enough to send the fans home happy. A great attacking display, but less said about some of the defending the better. Lodge could, and possibly should, have had more goals as Atkinson and Callear also struck the woodwork.

Special mentions to Barnard for his first Red Lodge hattrick, Birch for his 3rd goal in as many games and Alex Callear whose performance was just missing a goal.

Trev awarded the MoM to Joe Parr for another dominating performance in midfield topped off with 2 wonderful goals.

A big thanks to Jude’s Ferry for providing the post-match refreshments and ensuring all the boys were suitably hydrated.

Good job we ain't got a game tomorrow 🙈
