Brill Cottage

Brill Cottage This magical setting is home to Brill Cottage, nestling on the edge of Brill Hill in the county of Buckinghamshire.

Well known amongst locals for being a past haunt of J.R.R.Tolkien, Brill is said to be the inspiration behind Bree, the fictional village in the Lord of the Rings. A beautiful holiday retreat, Brill Cottage is perfect for couples and ideally located just a few hundred yards from the renowned Brill Windmill, a famous landmark of this historic area sitting in an elevated position overlooking Bucking

hamshire and the neighbouring Shires. Opposite the Windmill is The Pheasant, a popular friendly village pub serving tasty home cooked meals - a wonderfully cosy place to visit after you have enjoyed walking and exploring the countryside that surrounds! When sitting outside on the terrace of the pub during the warmer months, soaking up the simply stunning scenery, it is easy to understand exactly what gave Tolkien his creative inspiration. Typically English, Brill Village has two great pubs for a pint or meal, shops for stocking up on provisions, a post office and an excellent butcher who has won awards. Nearby Haddenham (fifteen minute drive) has a railway station (with two trains each hour to London) and the popular towns of Bicester (with its retail outlet) and Aylesbury are within easy reach and a short drive. Centrally located in the country, Brill has a wealth of attractions and places to visit providing great days out. Follow in the footsteps of Morse and Lewis and explore the many villages (including Brill itself) that have been used in the filming of Midsomer Murders. Explore the quintessentially English villages and ancient towns of the Cotswolds whose mellow yellow buildings act as a honey trap to tourist from far and wide. National Trust houses and gardens are plentiful in this area including Waddlesdon Manor, Stowe and Claydon House. Marvel at the pure beauty of Blenheim Palace and Warwick Castle or discover some of Shakespeare's old haunts at Stratford-upon-Avon. The dreamy spires of Oxford City Centre are also within easy reach, as is Silverstone Race Circuit - there are certainly no shortage of things to do in this beautiful part of Central England!
