🌺 Over 5,000 handmade poppies are coming to The Moda House.

Something rather special is taking shape in Chipping Sodbury.

On Saturday 24 October, the front of The Moda House will be transformed by a spectacular cascade of over 5,000 knitted and crocheted poppies, created by Jo Lovell and her incredible team at The Wool Cellar .

But this isn't just about the finished installation.

It's a story about community, Remembrance and the people who have given their time and skills to make it happen.

From the original idea sparked by Duncan MacArthur, to the army of knitters creating thousands of individual poppies, to Tim Wilkinson and Joe Craig working out how to safely install them across the building – this really has been a community effort.

And there's an important reason behind it.

💷 The Poppy Cascade is raising funds for the Royal British Legion, with donations available online and through collection points around Chipping Sodbury.

Travelling for work sounds glamorous until you're on your third motorway journey of the week.

The early start. The traffic. The site visit. The meetings. The customer appointments. The inevitable emails that still need answering, even though you're technically “finished” for the day.

And then there's the journey to your accommodation.

After a long day, the last thing you really want is more hassle. You want somewhere easy to get to, somewhere you can park without driving around looking for a space, and somewhere you can walk to get something to eat.

That's one of the things we try to make easy at The Moda House.

You can arrive, park up, check in and settle into a comfortable room. With the High Street right outside, there are pubs, cafés and restaurants within walking distance, so you don't need to get back in the car.

And in the morning, breakfast is included, so there's one less thing to think about before heading off for another busy day.

There’s a lot more to running a B&B than making the beds.

There are the early mornings, checking that everything is ready before the first guest arrives, making sure breakfast is just right, answering the phone and helping someone find somewhere for dinner.

There’s recommending a walk when someone has a few hours to spare, making sure the rooms are warm and welcoming, and thinking about all those little details that can make a stay easier.

And then there are the unexpected moments that come with running an independent business. The conversations with guests, the stories people share about why they're visiting, the regulars who come back and you recognise straight away, and the guest who tells you they had the best night's sleep they've had all week.

Those are the bits that make all the hard work worthwhile.

Because when you're an independent B&B, you're not just looking after rooms. You're looking after people's experience.
