1940s ’Towns Talk’ (aka ‘Mile 3 Cafe’): now ‘The Inn at Yangleigh’. Bristol on route to the Bristol airport

The Inn at Yanleigh

Although its best remembered as the ‘Towns Talk’, this earlier image was taken when it was the ‘Mile 3 Roadside Cafe' & Petrol Station(arrowed).

Located on the Bridgwater Road, it was originally named as it was just 3 miles from Bristol’s city centre, so outside its boundary and bi-laws. By WW2, this small Cafe, had rapidly become a VERY popular Night Club for late night drinking & dancing! That reputation continued into the 1950s and 60s. Then following an extensive re-build, when the petrol station was cleared for a new car park, it became known as the ‘Towns Talk Country Club & Motel’ ... & gained another reputation!! Bristol International balloon Fiesta. . . you were amazing, four mass ascents, a full car park, 1000 photographers, from spectacular sunrises to magical sunsets we’ve loved every minute.
