The Greenway Group - Press Release - 19/05/24
GREAT NEWS! We were never affected by the Water Supply!
As a responsible local business whom operate 5 hospitality and 3 retail outlets in Brixham, along with a leisure business located in Galmpton and a nightclub in Torquay, our priority was to protect our customers and teams upon hearing the news of the water supply issue in Brixham.
After getting through the ordeals and challenges of Covid on our own merit, we have a robust contingency plan in place for the business which enabled us to act immediately to secure the safety of our customers and teams. As many would have seen on our previous posts, we took precautions immediately to ensure no tap water was used in any of our outlets. We swapped out current water filters for reverse osmosis filters and secured a large supply of ice and mineral water to all of our outlets.
Thankfully this was not needed after all as we are not served by the affected Hillhead Reservoir which supplies water to the Higher Brixham area, not the central Brixham/Harbour Area. However our usual belt and brace approach enabled us to continue business as normal in a safe manner for our customers and teams.
Unfortunately the hysteria caused by media misinformation and the lack of clarity from Southwest Water has understandably put off customers in Brixham. We have seen a huge downturn in business to a huge scale. Many bookings have been cancelled and the town is essentially a ghost town on what should be a very busy weekend with the good weather. We envisioned a downturn naturally due to this, however not to this extent particularly as the majority of Brixham was not affected by the water supply issue.
Brixham now needs YOU to support it more than ever. Not just for us, but for many independent businesses which keep Brixham going. Brixham survives on the community along with visitors and the tourism trade.
We need everyone to spread the word that Brixham is open for business as usual - The Town Centre was NEVER affected by the water supply issue. As a business we will be pushing Southwest Water to release clear information to clarify that the town centre was not affected by this and to ensure the misinformation and hysteria by the media is ended.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our teams and customers for their patience over the past 5 days whilst we have adjusted our operating platforms to ensure everyone is safe.
Support your Local Businesses NOW - before you lose them altogether!
