Situated in an enviable waterfront location on the banks of the river Tay, the Ship Inn dates back to 1847 when it was first listed as a spirit dealer serving the fisher folk of Broughty Ferry. Today the premises comprise a traditional and welcoming bar on the ground floor, whilst comfortable fixed seating and chairs are finished in rich burgundy leather. Above the bar is our restaurant which comf

ortably seats up to 36 adults. Our restaurant serves the freshest local produce and the freshest fish throughout the year. While the bar not only serves wine, spirits and beers but has a choice of three cask ales and a wide range of malts to choose from. Our waterfront location has excellent views over the River Tay and is close to local attractions such as the Broughty Ferry Castle, Broughty Ferry Beach which is just 5 minutes walk away and the Esplanade.

🚢 A polite reminder for customers visiting the bar with dogs. We have recently had the leather seating reupholstered. While we are dog friendly, we do ask and always have had signs to ask that dogs please refrain from sitting on the seating, this includes on top of a blanket or jacket.

It has also been brought to attention some customers being rude to bar staff who are only following premises rules when asking customers to refrain from having their pet on the seating. Which is not fair.

In all fairness if you had a brand new settee or a brand new car, would you really allow your pet with their paws and fur to clamber all over it? It’s really not asking for much.

This is and always has been the rule. We are decent enough to give your pet a warm welcome and if reasonable rules cannot be followed then it will be assistance dogs only going forward.
