Well, it’s been a minute! Summer at Sealladh Mara has been super busy, and September shows little sign of slowing down. We do however have last minute availability from tomorrow, 1 Sep, until Saturday 5th (min. two night stay).

Why not visit Portessie this week and enjoy the last of the mild weather before autumn rolls in? The cottage is clean, cosy, and ready to go. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

A very special visitor has been spotted in Moray this month… Magnus the walrus has been seen nearby, bringing plenty of excitement to our beautiful coastline! What a perfect excuse for a spontaneous seaside escape. 🌊

At Sealladh Mara, we are lucky to have so much to do on our doorstep, as well as opportunities like this a little further afield. Make use of our bikes at the cottage and take a day trip to the Cairngorm Mountains to shred the trails.

🥣 Cullen Skink World Championships – right on our doorstep! 🥣

For the uninitiated, Cullen Skink is a traditional Scottish soup made with smoked haddock, potatoes and onions – simple, hearty and famously delicious. Originating in nearby Cullen, it’s been warming locals and visitors alike for generations.

The championships celebrate both amateur and professional cooks from near and far, competing for the coveted title, with judges crowning the very best version of this iconic dish. It’s a brilliant day out, full of local character, friendly competition and (of course) plenty of skink to sample!

We have availability for the championship weekend, as well as a last minute cancellation Feb 10-12. The rest of the calendar continues to fill up fast, with just one week left in August.

Four weeks today is the Cullen Skink World Championships 2026!

The event brings together home cooks, amateurs, and professional chefs in an epic battle to create the most mouthwatering bowl of Scotland’s iconic Cullen Skink.

With two thrilling cook-off competitions and 12 talented entrants in each, competitors have just 45 minutes to whip up their championship-worthy Cullen Skink.

A panel of expert judges will conduct a blind taste test to determine the ultimate champion, but you—the spectators—also get a say! Sample the incredible dishes and cast your vote for the coveted People’s Choice Award.
