10 years ago this weekend we welcomed our first guests to The School House 🥂

What better way to celebrate than a delicious sharing platter for lunch at our favourite pub - The Bell at Yarpole, run by the lovely Blaine and Michelle’s Next Adventure. Puddings optional of course but we couldn’t miss out on the baked potato chips, which were oh so crispy 😋

We’ve welcomed so many lovely guests over the past 10 years, the time has flown by. We look forward to welcoming many more ☺️

One of the questions we’re asked most often is, “Where’s a good place to eat?” 😄

The good news is that we’re surrounded by some fantastic pubs and restaurants, and we’re always happy to share our favourites. You’ll find lots of recommendations on the Eating Out page of our website, whether you’re in the mood for a leisurely lunch, a cosy pub supper or a special meal out.

We’ve recently written a blog about our visit to Old Downton Lodge, and we’ve also enjoyed discovering two more gems – The Oak Wigmore and The Royal George, Lingen. They’re definitely worth adding to your list!

Of course, the local food scene is always changing. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that The Bell at Yarpole will be serving food again soon, although we’re sorry to say that the Horse & Jockey in Knighton has now closed.

If you’re planning to eat out during your stay, it’s always a good idea to book ahead, especially at weekends, as the most popular places fill up quickly.

Do you have a favourite local pub or restaurant? We’d love to hear your recommendations too! 🍴

We do love blossom time 🌸

We're very lucky to have almond, apple, quince and damson blossom appearing at different times in our garden. Along the hedgerows the blackthorn blossom looks like fluffy clouds.

One of our favourite places for blossom is in Clun, by the 15th century packhorse bridge, but there are plenty of pretty blossom-laden villages in the Shropshire Hills.

Where have you spotted a great display of blossom?
