NESPRESSO UPDATE

Who would have thought coffee machines would be so complicated? Our latest guests found that the pods they brought for the Nespresso machine were the wrong ones, so in the interests of full disclosure, our machine is a Nespresso Vertuo Plus Coffee Machine by Magimix https://www.magimix.co.uk/nespresso-vertuo/173-vertuo-plus.html. It uses three different capsule sizes (described as the larger, flatter ones by our guests).

Can any Nespresso aficionados out there shed further light?

The VertuoPlus by Magimix offers freshly brewed Nespresso coffee with a rich crema, even in a large cup, at the touch of a button.

I like to think I'm channelling my inner David Bailey (well I use an Olympus) but there's a definite hint of Bill Oddie. Our woodpecker has brought its offspring into the garden.

Nespresso comes to Abernant

Being a bluff old traditionalist I find myself bamboozled by all these new tech gadgets that keep appearing (that's probably why I get on so well with the Aga) but I understand advances have been made in all sorts of areas.

So now, in addition to our Ninja filter coffee machine, we've added a Nespresso machine for our guests' use. Actually, we've upgraded a few other things recently:

• new 43" TV in the Oak oom
• DVD/Blu-Ray player
• in addition to a travel cot we now have a cot/toddler bed

With a house like Abernant it's a bit like painting the Forth Bridge...

UPDATE - thanks for all the interest but that week is now filled.

Availability - sadly one of the groups coming to stay at the house in August has received some bad news that means they have to cancel their stay, so we now have availability for the week commencing Friday 20th August. This is the only week we have free until mid-November. Contact us if you'd like to discuss.

We've been getting the house in shape for the guests we're expecting as the lockdown restrictions start to be eased, and we've taken the opportunity to make sure all the bird feeders are properly stocked and to try to restrict the damage the pesky squirrels to them.

I am amazed at the variety of birds we've seen but my favourite has to be this woodpecker which, I understand, is lesser-spotted.

SHOCK! HORROR! SCANDAL! PROBE!

Sadly one of our regular guests has had to cancel their six-day booking in April, so we now have availability from 20th April to 30th. The weekend in the middle (starting Friday 24th) is the only one free before July. Contact us here or through our website (abernanthouse.com) for special rates for that period.

It’s a whole three months since we became the proud new owners of Abernant House. It’s been a hectic period but enormous fun.

We have had thirteen groups stay at the house. They have all told us they had a great time, that the house is pretty special and the team that looks after the place and prepares it for visitors does an outstanding job, but we were particularly warmed when the last group to stay got in touch after they left.

They were a group of some thirteen-or-so friends who met when they went to university 45 years ago. They spent the weekend together at the house to celebrate their friendship and went to the trouble to send a card thanking the team for their hard work.

We were all very touched. That’s exactly what the house is all about.
