Fish and chips in the garden, a refreshing pint of Hooky, and a bit of sunshine overhead. That is what summer afternoons at The Angel are all about.

Our Hooky battered fish is served with hand cut chips, minted mushy peas, and tartare sauce, making it the kind of proper pub classic that is best enjoyed outside when the weather is good.

Tucked away behind the pub, the garden is one of Burford’s hidden spots to slow down for a long lunch or an easy evening meal.

The garden is starting to come into its own again.
A quieter spot away from the high street, with plenty of space to sit back with a drink or stay for food if the weather holds. It is one of those places people tend to linger a little longer, and is Burford's best kept secret!

Something sweet to round things off.
Carrot cake with honey ice cream, a crisp honey tuile, and walnuts. Not too heavy, just enough to finish a meal without overdoing it. Also perfect paired with a coffee!

A proper local pint and one that always goes down well.
Brewed just up the road by Hook Norton Brewery, Hooky is an easy one to come back to, balanced, traditional, and just right alongside a meal or for a pint in the garden. If you are popping in and not sure where to start, this is usually a very good place.

If you are leaning towards something lighter, this is a good place to start.
Pan fried cod with potato terrine, pea velouté, asparagus, and sea herbs. It is fresh, seasonal, and one of those plates that feels like spring has properly arrived.
