Duffus Estate - owned by the Dunbar Family for twelve generations is now run by Ed & Caroline Dunbar. As well as the more traditional farming and let property business, we have five great holiday properties - Old Duffus Farmhouse sleeping 8, Kirkton Cottage sleeping 4 and Duffus House Lodge sleeping 3 plus our luxury eco-cabin sleeping 2 with epic views to Duffus Castle & a beautiful wee seaside a

partment in nearby Lossiemouth. 2021 saw us launch Kula Coffee - a shepherds hut selling barista coffee, speciality tea & artisan hot chocolate at Duffus Castle. More exciting projects for the Estate are currently in the pipeline - watch this space.

We’re just back from attending the inaugural Global Agritourism Conference P&J Live Aberdeen - 2 days of inspiring & motivating speakers, with plenty of networking thrown in for good measure.

There were nearly 600 delegates from over 50 countries attending! This was a truly global event. We met folk from as far afield as Hawaii, Taiwan, Tasmania, New Zealand, Belarus, Canada & Uganda, to name just a few, as well as catching up with our many friends from within Scottish Agritourism. Moray was well represented with Byres Farm Westfield Farm, Edinvale Farm, Thorabella Farm & The Royal Oak, Cullen. We have much to think about & reflect upon.

Today was Day 1 of the inaugural Global Agritourism Conference, which Scottish Agritourism is proud to be hosting.

Today delegates from as far afield as Australia & Hawaii chose from a variety of day trips across Moray, Angus & Aberdeenshire. The Moray trip consisted of visiting ourselves, as well as fellow local Agritourism businesses Byres Farm & Edinvale Farm

It was a pleasure to be able to share our story of diversifying the Estate over the past 18 years. How special to be able to swap experiences with folk from Agritourism businesses from all over the world!

Tomorrow sees over 600 delegates meet at the P&J Live Aberdeen for two days of Agritourism learning and knowledge sharing - bring it on 🙌🏕️☕️☺️

Wow, wow, wow! We’re blown away by the phenomenal response we’ve had on our socials after I posted our campsite had finally opened at Duffus after a long 4 year slog!

We’ve gained a huge amount of new followers - hello & welcome to you all 👋

Here’s a brief introduction to us…Ed is the 12th generation of his family to call Duffus Estate home. We’ve spent almost 18 years modernising and diversifying the Estate. During that time we’ve created 6 unique holiday properties (4 traditional Estate properties, 1 lux solar powered cabin & a beautiful wee seaside apartment in nearby Lossiemouth) plus opened Kula Coffee Hut at Duffus Castle & The Koffie Box which will eventually serve up breakfasts for our happy campers.

Ed also works as a rural surveyor. We have two teenage kids & currently have 1 dog, 1 cat, 7 Soay sheep & 3 Highland coos 😵‍💫😅☺️

We obviously couldn’t do this on our own & have the best team who are part of our Duffus family.

So welcome to our page. We love the outdoors, we love camping & we’d love to welcome you to stay at our new campsite 🏕️

🏕️ So 3 weeks ago we quietly opened our new campsite!

🏕️ We purposefully chose a soft opening so we could deal with the inevitable teething problems quickly, whilst the site was still quiet 🛠️

🏕️ This opening was actually pretty momentous - it was the culmination of nearly 4 years hard graft. A lot of blood, sweat & tears were shed to get to this point 😅

🏕️ Little did we know what we were letting ourselves in for when we came back from a fabulous family camping trip in summer 2022 & decided to pivot away from developing Duffus House & build a campsite instead!

🏕️ However, now is not the time to dwell on the all hurdles we’ve overcome to finally have a completed site - although it might be quite cathartic to write a blog about that at some point 😅

🏕️ For now, check out our website to find out more We can’t wait to welcome you to Duffus & share our wee corner of Moray with you all ⛺️🌳😊

One of the many reasons Duffus Estate is so special is our healthy population of red squirrels 🐿️

We spot them nearly daily & they are always a joy to watch ☺️

This morning I thought there was just the two of them, but suddenly a third popped up & followed the others up the tree 🌳

We are so excited to be a part of the inaugural Global Agritourism conference next week.

Next Tuesday we’ll be welcoming over 50 international delegates to Duffus as part of their tour of 3 Moray Agritourism businesses (ourselves, plus Jock & Fiona at Edinvale Farm & Helen & Bill at Byres Farm).

We’ll be giving our visitors a tour around the Estate whilst chatting all about our 18 year Agritourism diversification journey! 🤩

Farmer, entrepreneur and co-founder of Only Farmers, Lisa Hogan has become one of the most recognised voices in British agriculture through her work at Diddly Squat Farm Shop and her role on Clarksons Farm.

We're delighted to announce that Lisa will appear on the main Global Agritourism Conference stage on Wednesday 24th June for a fireside chat with MC Claire Taylor joined by Only Farmers CEO, Wolfe Bentinck.

Having experienced first-hand the opportunities and challenges facing modern farming, Lisa is passionate about helping farmers diversify their businesses and build stronger connections with the public. She has recently co-founded Only Farmers, a platform designed to help farms generate additional income through experiences, stays, events and direct-to-consumer engagement, while fostering a stronger farming community.

There are only 20 tickets remaining for the inaugural Global Agritourism Conference: https://www.globalagritourismconference.com/
