Long shot I know ..... but we did a large funeral yesterday, Monday 20th July, and today we have found a visa debit card on our car park. Just trying to return the card.

Running a small independent business is something my husband Pete and I have been proudly doing since 1992. We care for people in our local area, live in that area too and care for those same people every day. The families and their guests that come through our door have chosen to support a local business, and that means so much to us.

Like many small businesses, we run every part of the business ourselves. We are the buyer, the cleaner, even the tea maker too! It's long hours and a lot of responsibility, but we just do it.

So to receive a thank you card means so much to us all.

To all small independent businesses out there, be proud, be very proud!

So Monday's dilemma. Cake or not to cake, now that is the question?

I'm certain that a nice piece of cake helps us all navigate the week.

Cream cake, egg custards, bakewell tarts and muffins, to name but a few.

So what an ab fab Saturday morning we all had down on the River Trent!! Sadly The Bee Keeper didn't win.

In true Burton Night Out style, he started well, ignored all advice that this was a marathon not a sprint, tipped duck face first into the drink, lost one of his head boppers and laddered his wings all in about 10 minutes. Boom Boom I'm certain we've all been there!!!!

But seriously what an achievement for , their Committee, Volunters and youngsters. You must be uber proud.

On a more personal note thank you to everyone who supported my sister . You did it babe, our Dad, John Hayward would be bursting with pride.

Perhaps do it all again next year?!?!????!!!!

Burton it's less than 24 hours to go until the big Duck Race, so duckies are you ready????

A mixture of the Grand National meets the annual Boat Race.

So here at we would like to introduce our duckie entry, The Bee Keeper. He's been on a strict training regime along with his buddy Bertie Bee.

We would like to wish all the duckie entries the best of luck, but wish you to know that Keepers Cottage wants to win. No one ever remembers who came 2nd or 3rd do they!!!

So today Keepers Cottage Lodge has the pleasure in announcing their support for Ducks in a Row, a traditional duck race down the River Trent. This is to be held on Saturday 4th April 2026 between 10am and 1pm.

The aim is to build a new boat shed on the river for Trent Rowing Club with Sport England agreeing to match monies raised up to 15K.

Keepers Cottage has a large fat yellow duck in this race, which just needs personalising and naming. Just to say it's gonna be a blast me duck!!
