Buxton is a charming place, with plenty to see and do. Here are some recommendations if you’re visiting the area:
1. Poole’s Cavern & Country Park – A stunning limestone cave that’s been a natural attraction for centuries. It’s fascinating to explore, and there are lovely walks in the surrounding country park.
2. Buxton Opera House – A gorgeous Edwardian theatre with a wide range of performances, from opera to comedy. Even if you’re not seeing a show, the building itself is worth admiring.
3. The Pavilion Gardens – A beautiful, well-maintained park with lovely gardens, a lake, and even a small café. Perfect for a stroll or a peaceful afternoon.
4. The Crescent – An iconic Georgian building, it’s undergoing a bit of a revamp, but it’s still worth checking out. Nearby, you’ll find the Buxton Thermal Spa, where you can enjoy the town’s famous mineral water.
5. Solomon’s Temple – If you fancy a bit of a walk with a view, this hilltop folly offers panoramic views of the surrounding Peak District. It’s a nice little hike to the top.
