MAY DAY IN CALSTOCK
Some of you may have heard us tell you about the Calstock Giant. Forget the Floral Dance and all the other commercial Cornish festivals – this is the one! A truly genteel and magical evening where no one makes a penny – except the pub, of course. The whole event is based on the Legend of Tamara and Tavy, a story of love.
THE CALSTOCK GIANT
Starting just before the mighty Calstock Viaduct, the Calstock Giant leads a procession of local people who come and join him as he processes through the village. The Giant knocks on the bedrooms windows to get everyone to come out to play. And play they do – music, traditional instruments are joined by pots and pans and anything else that might be used to send out a beat.
