IRONMAN Triathlon Weymouth 70.3 π₯
EPIC finish!
My last big triathlon for a while and I finished on a massive high πͺπ. Targeting this one race luckily came off good!
An unbelievable result with the benefits of warm sunshine, calm sea and lots of lovely people met along the way.
The drive to Weymouth was slightly less perfectβ¦ I was questioning how you're meant to arrive at these things rested?! And I had a last-minute bike mechanical at check-in which the brilliant Ironman bike mechanics sorted it out for me for free. ππ
Then nothing went wrong!!
8th out of the water, made up 6 places in T1, then took the lead early on the bike and just kept extending it. Stuck to my plan, pushed really hard all the way to the end and apparently decided that going up to 43.7 mph (70.3kmph) on the descents was a sensible idea π
My bike time of 2.47 is a huge PB π
Then came the run. Matt was out on the course giving me live splits and keeping me on it. At about mile 3 he gave me the first split: β10 minute lead! Get after it!β
So I did π
Somehow I turned that into a 20-minute lead, didn't collapse and legged it home for the win... And a 40 sec run pb, finishing in an overall time of 5.11.07 - another massive PB.
High-fiving all the way down the red carpet was unforgettable and it was the best finish I've EVER experienced πΎ
A massive thank you to the people behind the scenes who make all of this possible - couldn't have done it without you. β€οΈ
And a special mention to my mentor/coach Matt Davies, who has been there every step of this particular journey - and was literally there on race day, from the start to the finish line π€©
