Almost 1,000 people were declared dead from Covid-19 yesterday, but instead of criticising Johnson and the Tory government for their weeks of inaction in the crucial early stages of the crisis, and their shocking failure to provide proper protective gear to NHS staff, the S*n declared it "Good Friday" because Johnson was "in excellent spirits", sitting up and watching films in his hospital bed.
In literally any other field of human endeavour Johnson would be absolutely reviled for what he's unleashed. If a company killed thousands of their employees through their negligence and complacency, or a football club killed thousands of their fans, the boss/owner would be damned by the public and the press alike.
There would be no fawning, forelock-tugging vigil, and the survival of this figure certainly wouldn't be elevated in importance by the press miles above the tsunami of death they themselves had unleashed.
This shocking failure to hold the Tories to account for their failings, and the cultish deification of Johnson as some kind of absurd Covid-Christ figure should be evidence enough for any reasonable person to conclude that UK mainstream media is in a profoundly sick state.
