Tennant Lodge No. 1992

Tennant Lodge No. 1992 Welcome to the Tennant Lodge No.1992 page of the Masonic Province of South Wales. Freemasonry means different things to each of those who join.

For some, it’s about making new friends and acquaintances. For others it’s about being able to help deserving causes – making a contribution to family and society. But for most, it is an enjoyable hobby. Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. It teaches self-knowledge through participation in a progression of cerem

onies. Members are expected to be of high moral standing and are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry. The following information is intended to explain Freemasonry as it is practised under the United Grand Lodge of England, which administers Lodges of Freemasons in England and Wales and in many places overseas. Freemasonry is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. Its members are taught its principles (moral lessons and self-knowledge) by a series of ritual dramas – a progression of allegorical two-part plays which are learnt by heart and performed within each Lodge – which follow ancient forms, and use stonemasons’ customs and tools as allegorical guides. Freemasonry instils in its members a moral and ethical approach to life: its values are based on integrity, kindness, honesty and fairness. Members are urged to regard the interests of the family as paramount but, importantly, Freemasonry also teaches concern for people, care for the less fortunate and help for those in need. Charity

From its earliest days, Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of orphans, the sick and the aged. This work continues today. In addition, large sums are given to national and local charities. Are you thinking of becoming a Freemason? We would like to hear from you. Please contact us here.

Tennant Lodge brought brethren and families together for an enjoyable spring lunch at Cardiff Masonic Hall today.
As well as reinstating this wonderful informal social event, which was last held before the disruption of the Covid pandemic, we raised money for two fantastic charities.

I AM PROUD TO BE A MASON

I shall never forget my first thought as I made my initial entrance into the Masonic Lodge that conferred the Entered Apprentice Degree on me, and followed with the Fellow Craft and Master Mason Degrees. I was immediately made to feel that I was surrounded by Brothers. I felt there were no strangers present. This was one big family that seemed to have adopted me, and I, in turn, was elated to adopt them as my family.

My horizon of Masonry expanded, and my pride and joy were bubbling and effervescent. I couldn't wait to be able to confer the Degrees on others as there was so much I wanted to explain and elaborate about each Degree.

I was offered this opportunity and immediately began to study and memorize many parts, and over the years I became very active, holding office, lecturing, and taking an active part in every phase of Masonry where my talents and abilities could be used. One aspect of Masonry that has made a great impression on me was the ability of all Brothers, regardless of religion, to ask me why did I need Masonry as a Rabbi, because my profession was one of integrity, kindness, honesty, and all the attributes expounded in Masonry. It was difficult for many to grasp my need for this addition and supplement to religion. I worked with men of different religions, as well as of the Hebrew faith, and they were all impressed when I would say that Masonry is not a religion, but to be a Mason we had to believe in God, and if this was the only aspect of our religion and we had no other formal religion, yet we adhered to all the moral teachings of Masonry; this too would have put us in the category of men of integrity. However, Masonry is not a substitute for religion, nor is it a religion.

My experience has shown that Masons are, for the most part, deeply religious men. I am proud to be a Mason and a part of an organization that is devoted to helping, without question or embarrassment, widows, orphans, and those in need.

I am proud

People often think one has to be invited to become a Mason. This is not true. Freemasonry never recruits and we only accept those who join entirely of their own free will.

We do have a few requirements:
1. Must be a male 18 or older,
2. Believe in a "Supreme Being"
3. Be of good repute -- and
4. Share a genuine interest in improving yourself.

There is a process to becoming a Mason one that builds over time to complete the three degrees and earn the title of Master Mason. These steps will build a better pathway to joining our Lodges and has been proven since time immemorial.

Be warned there are clandestine Masonic groups who target and recruit people who may have a sincere desire to join but could not meet requirements or persevere the process. These groups attract individuals who see Freemasonry as a status symbol and not as a privilege. In reality, they not only mimic Freemasonry degree systems, ritual, and education — they also try to claim legitimacy in our communities. However, they are recognized only by themselves and not from other Jurisdictions.

Never settle for non-recognized Freemasonry. It's not worth the time and money. There are many opportunities for you in other large and well recognized organizations.

If it is Freemasonry you really seek, then knock on correct and legitimate doors.
