The Met Office forecast currently favours Friday and Saturday morning for outdoor plans, with sunny intervals and highs near 21°C. Rain becomes more possible late Saturday; Sunday’s early showers should clear to brighter weather. Saturday may also turn breezy, with gusts approaching 29mph.
1. UTSAV 2026 — colourful Sunday entertainment close to camp ☔
This celebration of Indian classical arts brings Bharatanatyam dancer Priyadarsini Govind and Carnatic vocalist Chaitrra Sairam to the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, 3–6:30pm Sunday. It offers something genuinely distinctive—and somewhere dry if Sunday’s showers linger. Official event and tickets
* Best for: Dance, live music, culture and wet weather.
* Travel: Roughly 15–20 minutes’ walk through Bute Park, or 5–10 minutes cycling.
* Cost/booking: £10–£25; book ahead. The organisers’ previous Cardiff event sold out.

2. Royal Welsh Party in the Park — free Saturday spectacle
Cardiff Castle hosts military bands, historical re-enactments, armoured vehicles, children’s activities and food stalls from 11am–5pm Saturday 12 September. It is an easy, lively outing without moving the campervan. Official event details
* Best for: Families, history enthusiasts and Saturday’s brighter hours.
* Travel: Around 20 minutes’ walk through Bute Park or 8 minutes cycling. City-centre parking will be less convenient than walking.
* Cost/booking: Free; no booking.
* Dogs: Assistance dogs are permitted. Ordinary dogs are normally restricted to the Castle’s Public Square, so do not take one onto the event field.

3. St Fagans Food Festival — biggest foodie choice 🐕
More than 70 food, drink and craft stalls, plus cookery demonstrations, family activities and music, fill the museum from 10am–6pm Saturday and Sunday. Museum buildings normally close at 5pm, while the festival continues until 6pm. Official festival information
* Best for: Food lovers, families and a mostly dry day.
* Travel: Approximately 20–25 minutes by car; driving is simplest. Expect parking queues and arrive near opening time.
* Cost/booking: Festival and museum free; parking £7 per day, free for Blue Badge holders. No booking required; spending money may prove harder to avoid.
* Dogs: Welcome outdoors on short leads, but not in historic houses, galleries or cafés.

4. Resonant Places at the Pierhead — free rainy-day culture ☔
Opening on Saturday 12 September, this exhibition uses photographs, posters, artwork and first-hand stories to revive Cardiff’s vanished music venues. It suits anyone who remembers sweaty upstairs gigs—or wonders why everyone keeps talking about them. Official exhibition listing
* Best for: Music history, adults and changeable weather.
* Travel: About 25–30 minutes cycling; 20 minutes by taxi. Alternatively, reach Cardiff Bus Interchange and take routes 6 or 8 towards the Bay.
* Cost/booking: Free; no booking indicated.
* Dogs: Assistance dogs only inside.
* Access: The Pierhead has step-free access, lifts, a ground-floor accessible toilet and induction-loop provision. Nearby accessible parking requires prior arrangement; Q-Park Pierhead Street is about four minutes away.
