Allt Y Rheini

Allt Y Rheini Allt Y Rheini is a grade II listed house set in beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside.

Records show that people have been living on this site since at least the fifteen hundreds. Since then the house has been substantially changed and extended so that it is no longer a simple farmhouse. When we bought it in 2010 it had been neglected for years and was in a very sorry state. There was dry rot, wet rot, woodworm, a leaking roof, no heating and toadstools growing in the bedrooms. So fa

r we have replumbed, reroofed, replaced windows and we are still working our way around the house repairing and redecorating. Because it is grade 2 listed this has been done under the watchful eye of the Conservation Officer. It wasn’t our intention to take on a project, let alone such a huge one but the idyllic location was the deciding factor. We will ALWAYS be working on this house (and spending huge amounts of money on it).

Mr W likes his garden gadgets and it's usually me that ends up having to use them. A couple of years ago he decided that as we have so many trees he needed a pole saw to trim branches. When Mr W gets an idea he really fixates on it so the inevitable happened - he bought a pole saw. Not just any pole saw but a petrol driven pole saw that extends telescopically. This has sat in a dark corner ever since. Until now. Now you may not immediately see the obvious pitfall here. But I daresay not many of you live with a man of severely impaired vision. I will try to get some video if I can and you will understand the issue. Basically a man who has only limited vision an inch from his face certainly can't see a saw on a the end of a skinny pole 3.8 meters away! Video to follow if I can stop laughing long enough to take one.

Well I should know better than to let a visually impaired man top up the garden tractor fuel tank. It seems that diesel in a petrol tank is not advisable! Smoke clouds that can be seen from space are quite frightening - I have never run so fast.
It is now at the tractor vets for colonic irrigation.

We had a problem. We allowed (due to certain circumstances) to let the orchard become overgrown. I have been a fan of escape to the country and on a recent rerun there was a home search in Pembrokeshire. They showed a business called Biogoats2rent which just happens to be not far from us. We now have 8 of their goats chomping away to their hearts' content around the fruit trees. They have an invisible fence connected to their collars which is activated from the owners' business so they are restricted to a specific area. IT WORKS! They arrived last Monday and now the orchard is beginning to resemble an orchard again. Going to use them in one or two other areas when it is finished. The pictures are not very good as I was using my tablet. Proper pics to follow

Left the back door open while we were in the garden and Mr and Mrs Swallow moved in and prepared to build a nest on the top of the grandfather clock on one of the landings. We have now evicted them. You may just be able to see Mrs Swift on the top left hand side of the clock.
