We've had a cancellation due to a bout of the flu (we wish our wonderful regular guests a speedy recovery) and so beautiful Skiddaw Lodge is now available for New Year. The lodge sleeps up to 6 in 3 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen in an open plan living space. You'll have access to our leisure suite with hot tub and sauna (available on a pre book basis) and all the views you could ask for! You might even be greeted by our sheep and their donkey friends each morning...

We cannot echo this enough. Enjoy the outdoors, enjoy the lake district and enjoy the fells. But be prepared, stay safe and come home. The fells will still be there another day!

Today is Mountain Rescue Awareness Day . . .

A day to raise awareness of everything Mountain Rescue do.

All team members are volunteers and never get paid for what they do - Mountain Rescue Teams are available 24/7 365 days a year to go out to help people that find themselves lost/injured/ill/stuck/too scared to get off the mountains.

Teams members are driven by a desire to help those in need in the outdoors.

You can help us to help you by being prepared when you get outside - we call this being adventure smart . . .

Three questions to ask yourself before you head out:

⛰️Do I have the right gear?
⛰️Do I know what the weather will be like?
⛰️Am I confident I have the knowledge and skills for the day ahead?

The clocks have changed so it’s going to be dark earlier - remember your headtorch and spare batteries. The weather is colder so remember your layers, waterproofs and a hot flask!

The swallows have had a busy summer, with such good weather and so many insects, many of them have raised 3 broods of chicks... We've been watching some of them closely as they nested in the goat shed! This brood has gone from tiny hatchlings to fully feathered birds in just under 3 weeks. They are testing their wings and will be fledging any day now ready for their mammoth migration. In the next week or two they'll set off on a 6000-mile journey to South Africa where they'll spend the winter before returning next spring - hopefully to raise their own babies. Good luck little swallows!

Happy snowy 2025! It's been a beautiful start to the year with some weekend snowfall! The dogs are super happy about playing in the white stuff, but the goats like to be tucked up in their shed with plenty of hay! The goats will also be feasting on the village Christmas tree (and a few other donated ones) to keep them warm over the coming days!

Popped out to cheer Paddy on during his epic journey for children in need as he passed through Cumbria today. He looked brilliant and we wish him the best of luck for the rest of his journey!
