Rural location but close to a host of amenities in the picturesque village of Dalston. 6 x en-suite, 1 x non ensuite camping cabins providing, warm comfortable accommodation (with underfloor heating for the cooler months); home from home comforts, within a tranquil rural setting; a real back to nature holiday experience surrounded by woodlands, walks a range of wildlife and extensive rural views.

We are situated only one mile from the nearest public house (The Bridge End Inn) which can be accessed via footpaths of which there is one that starts directly opposite our site. We are only 2 miles from Dalston village centre; with a bus service and train station to access Carlisle City centre and the Western Lake District. By car its approximately 10 minutes to Caldbeck, 35 minutes to Keswick, Derwentwater, Whinlatter Forest Park, Ullswater, Pooley Bridge and Aira Force.

· Luxury camping accommodation at an affordable price sleeping up to 4 persons. (Maximum adult occupancy x 2)
Theraputic jet spa Hot Tubs on all cabins.

· Free car parking for ONE vehicle per cabin.

· Free Wifi - but we don't have superfast fibre broadband. Don't expect miracles!!

· Fire pit & BBQ hire - Disposable BBQ's are not allowed on site due to high fire risk.

· Provision for well behaved dogs kept off the furniture, on leads, under full control and ensuring all dog waste is disposed of correctly.

We had fabulous few hours off last Saturday to attend our village agricultural show with Chester our shetland pony and the grandchildren. We all had a fabulous time including Chester who seemed to love every minute of it! Even better we won the fancy dress competition. 😀 Chester is such a lovely pony who makes us smile and is growing her own fan club here at Thornfield. Certainly a great addition all round. ❤️

How sad is this, and why we do not allow disposable BBQ's on our site. They are a high fire risk, not environmentally friendly and can cause significant damage. In the past we have had the fire ash bin set alight, a disposable BBQ thrown in the woodland and decking burned on one of the cabins. It is sad that common sense is in short supply. :(

😡 Wasdale is one of the most beautiful places in the country. It is not a dumping ground, a free campsite, or somewhere people can treat with total disregard because they fancy a day out.

In recent weeks the valley has seen chronic illegal parking, littering, fly-camping, BBQs and fires. That behaviour is selfish, dangerous and completely unacceptable. It damages a precious landscape, puts pressure on local residents and businesses, and leaves others to clean up the mess.

A clear action plan is now being taken forward by Wasdale Action Group, Cumberland Council, Lake District National Park, National Trust Lake District , Cumbria Police and others. That includes:

✅ New double yellow lines being trialled from the entry cattle grids to Wasdale Head - these are already having a positive impact
✅ More than 100 boulders placed to stop vehicles damaging protected land
✅ More enforcement patrols on busy weekends and during holidays
✅ Action to push for stronger parking penalties where fines are currently treated by some as “worth it”
✅ Use of Public Space Protection Order powers against fires, BBQs, fly-camping and littering where enforcement thresholds are met - current powers don't go far enough which I have made clear to the council, but this is a start
✅ New signage, visitor information and stronger “leave no trace” messaging
✅ Litter picking support for the local community and work with fantastic groups like the Wasdale Wombles (shout out to Lindsay and the team!)
✅ A funded shuttle bus service for 2026, with £3 all-day travel and children travelling free

The message is simple: come to Wasdale, respect Wasdale, or don’t come.

Park legally. Take your litter home. Do not light BBQs or fires. Do not camp where you should not. Use the shuttle bus where possible. And understand that this valley is home to people, farms, wildlife and a landscape that deserves proper protection.

I’ll keep working with local partners to make sure the action plan is delivered and that the voice of the Wasdale community is heard loud and clear. We'll be meeting at the end of this season to review what worked and what needs to improve and coming up with a more robust plan for next year.
